Freeon leak under dash

I am told the ac gas has leaked out at a location under the dashboard in my '04 Disco2. Anyone know of video on how to remove the dash to access? Also, someone tried and couldn't get the dash cover to tuck back into the slot up front. Now the dash cover, up by the windshield, is lifted and too distorted to be fit back under the metal lip.
Any ideas?

It looks as the person didn't know what he was doing and was unfamiliar with the rover dash. By looking at the picture it looks as the dash pad has been pulled up their is a trim kit available online that will pin down the dash pad.

You're going to want another test before messing with that. It's a lot of headache based on only one diagnosis.

If the guy said "freon", I'd take it somewhere else. I can understand people generally mixing that up, but when you're running a shop, you shouldn't be using the incorrect words. There is no freon in your system. It's one refrigerant or another, but not freon.

Now, if you were the one that decided upon the word before posting, it's not a problem. I accidentally use out of date terminology on occasion, as well, but I'm not running a shop.

I certainly wouldn't trust someone who can't figure out that the dash cover isn't installed properly.

I certainly wouldnt trust someone who called that big ol' hunk of aluminium up front a motor, when it is in fact an engine!!! Amateurs everywhere!!!!

Say what you will. If you had a Corvette, would you let one of those guys that calls it a "Corvette Chevrolet" work on it? :ROFLMAO:

Is that not an indication of ignorance acceptable in passing, yet not in profession? I would argue it is; along with "freon".

The definition of "engine" as a mechanical or electro-mechanical construct that performs work, and "motor" as a specific type of engine has been over-run.

I'll keep to it, and the disregarding of those definitions annoys me, but it's not as if the mechanic can misidentify a V8 as a vacuum cleaner.

A mechanic that still thinks "freon" when working on climate control systems, however... Anyone in such a profession has had 32 fucking years to phase out that terminology, and in one more had better kick it completely if they don't want their shop bothered by angry yuppies and hipsters with Yelp access who don't understand what's happening.

Cheers,

Kennith

Back to the questions at hand -

1) The dash can be removed and reinstalled, there is guidance available here and elsewhere (RAVE for example). It's annoying, but doable. I've had one out and back in within a single day on my own, and I'm no professional. There is no youtube video showing how to do such a tedious and relatively uncommon process, but it's not difficult.

2) Whoever tried and couldn't get it back in was clearly either not taking their time or trying to force it. Getting the dash pad back in place is not difficult after you've just taken it out. I suspect that they may have had it half out and tried to yank it out, but failed and ended up bending something or getting it misaligned.

3) Out of curiosity, what makes you think the refrigerant leak is under the dash? I chased down a leak I thought was under the dash a few years back, but it ended up being the seal around the compressor shaft. Once I started tracing the system with a $30 Amazon sniffer, it was a simple affair.
