Hi all - 02 D2 V8 Manual
I just (late last week) had the front CVs etc replaced on my 02 D2. The splines were showing signs of twisting and were causing clicking noises. The new front end now inc half shaft - only clicks once on take off now and again and not constant like before on take off where it was clicking away a number of times before getting going. And towing it used to be very bad now towing it clicks each time off the mark (2 tonns) but nowhere near as bad as before. The front end also used to click rocking on the handbrake but doesnt do that now.
My question is do the axles to CVs click a bit as standard. Mine is a manual so I put a fair bit of instant toque on the drivetrain that autos dont do. This front end has only lasted me 143,000 kilometres (ie about 80k miles) - had vehicle since new. Given that its a 2 grand job to replace the front end im keen to avoid doing it again...
I know that part of my problem is that I like using the instant torque of the manual with some revs to get her going off the line - and not that slow on occasions!
Cheers
PS. Give me the D1 swivel housing front end any day...also dont know about the lick of grease on the CVs in the D2 followed up by some sealed (in theory) boots.
