Front Recovery Points

Alright guys, I'm now the proud owner of a '97 Discovery .... and with new ownership comes a few questions. Well...only one right now. But I previously had a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee and wanted front end recovery points without getting the ARB bumper or something of the likes. Kevin's Jeep Parts has a radiator support with shackles:

So, the question is...does anyone make something for Land Rovers like this.....a cheap alternative to a new bumper ( I have a safari brush guard right now with stock bumper). Thanks!

You can add a pair of tow hooks - on the bottom of the front frame rails and just behind the bumper mounts. I found some like pictured below at TSC, but lots of places have them. The ones I found were rated at 10,000 lbs each. Be sure to get some with spring clips, these will keep recovery straps from falling out of the hooks.

To mount them you have to drill all the way through the frame bottom to top. Then use appropriate length/diameter grade 8 bolts/nuts/washers and use a metal plate on top of the frame to prevent crushing when you torque the bolts down.

An inexpensive solution and worked fine for me. If you are really stuck then I suggest attaching straps to both to spread the load. I have since taken them off as I have a bumper with shackle mounts which are way easier to use.
