A Freelander owner wrote asking about how to repair his V Reg 2000cc Diesel . Apparently, the cable for the window regulator is broken. He removed the inner skin and found the cable in strands. He is wondering if he should splice this together or replace the entire piece.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this problem and how to repair it?

I had a problem with the rear RH winder. It's a small plastic guide that breaks. Since it's staked into the assembly during manufacture and you can't get a replacement, you have to get a whole winder mechanism. But it's a simple fit for anyone with a bit of mechanical appitude. The rear was three or four bolts and about 1/2 hour to fit it.

Atlantic British do the part for about $200.

The window cable breaking is a fairly common problem, I have replaced both on Mrs wizards XEDi.
In both cases the cable was so rusted and frayed that a repair wasnt really possable.
You can pick up spare units off e bay at about 1/3 the dealer price. The only problem being, you have to replace the whole mechanism not just the cable.
Easy job though all done in an hour or so.
