Fuel dripping off back of tank... Maybe more than just the pump?

My relatively new to me 2003 Disco has been having some problems with fuel. It has had a strong smell since I bought the car from the inside and outside, it is bad enough for me to not want it parked in the garage. On top of that, it has started to drip out of the backside when I start the car (even for only 30 seconds or so) as well as dripping a couple of tablespoons worth of fuel when the tank sloshed when setting it down off the jack stands yesterday. My local shop insists that it must be the fuel pump and that it is completely safe to drive the 30 minutes to their shop with it like this, however, I am leaning towards something harder to fix such as a fuel hose... Lastly, this is probably not related, but from cold it takes a couple of good long tries cranking to start. I have the plugs and wires in my shop but haven't slapped them on yet, could also possibly be the fuel pressure from the bad pump or maybe the starter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not good advice to drive when fuel is leaking! I agree with Will, should be easy to verify. Your Cold start problem is linked to the fuel leak because loss of fuel pressure.

Mine did something similar. Turned out the ring that sits on top of the fuel pump, the one that holds it down, wasn't seated correctly. I bought a new seal but didn't end up needing it. If you happen to need that seal, I have one (in AZ). Just pull your carpet back and if you see fuel pooled around the pump, it's likely that seal.

Awesome thank you to everyone, I will pull the carpet tomorrow when I finally have some time off of work! You always have to take as many shifts as possible when you want to drive your Rover… :)
