Fuel pump inertia switch

Hello every one, I experienced something rather odd with my 98 discovery 1 and I thought id share. I had been experiencing a little bit of a rough idle, slightly under power feeling land rover. I had no codes and simply just let it be until the situation worsened enough to give me a direction of diagnostic. The past three days I had been getting a sudden loss of engine power with a very violent slam back into power. I was going pretty crazy thinking about what could be failing in the transmission allowing this to be so intermittent. Finally, I started the rover to let it warm up in the driveway. I was clearing some ice fishing gear from the rear gate. I stepped on the hitch and sort of bounced quite a bit as a stepped up and the rover stalled... I was able to start it back up and do the same thing until it stalled until I got the the point of no fuel pump cycle with the key on. So, I proceeded to do a fuel system diagnostic. Power to the fuse 3 in the dash, power to fuse 6 in the engine bay, power to the fuel pump relay, power coming out of the relay to the fuel pump inertia switch, no power from the other side of the inertia switch, a simple check at the fuel pump to confirm no power and sure enough, no power at the pump. I bypassed the inertia switch. The rover started right up, idles smooth and seems to have a bit more pep in its step! I have not had a problem since. My guess is that the fuel pump was working intermittently creating random loss of power or shifting issues. Again, I thought I would share and hopefully this helps some one! If anyone has a opinions on whether or not to keep the inertia switch bypassed or replace it, I would love to hear. Happy driving people!
