Recent cold start difficulties and not hearing the fuel pump prime (couple seconds or so) when key at position II. Once started runs fine and then when shut down fuel pressure seems to maintain over a few hours to allow a 1st time start, but not enough overnight to allow a clean 1st time start. Any suggestions on why the pump doesn't prime, or anything else it might be, are greatly appreciated. Btw - hot start fine, no issues there.

Many thanks,

Rob

Sounds perfectly normal. Did you actually measure the fuel pressure?

In any case, in the morning, just hold the key in the position 2 for a few seconds before cranking.

Have the 2 fuel pump relays ever been replaced? If they are older relays, the mechanism inside could be worn out, the points could be pitted, and overall they are slow to actuate. Find the relays in the right kick panel. Turn the key to "on", they should "click on" immediately, and you should hear the fuel pump prime. The diagnosis and fix are easy to do.

The relays are original and so now 22 years old. I will check as you suggest and replace. Forgot to mention that the ecu threw code 14 too. Do you know if there is a list of codes on here for the pre '96 ecu's?
Many thanks,
Rob.
