FYI: Doors will lock, but not unlock, '03 D2

Just an FYI that I thought I would share with the Discoweb community out there (which has been really helpful to me). I'm really new at this, so no guarantees on anything here, but I am just trying to get a few more posts up here as I continue to explore and learn of the many woes my Rover has encountered.

Anyways, if you're currently experiencing the following problem (solution below; many thanks to user jdanish from landroverforums.com for helping me out here, and credit to him is certainly deserved for this fix):

Problem:
1) Your alarm works, and disengages;
2) all of your doors are locked (tailgate included) despite pressing the unlock button on your key fob;
3) you can't unlock your doors by pressing the unlock button on your central lock button next to your clock;
4) both your central lock and your key fob will lock your car (but again, won't unlock);
5) you can hear power to your locks when pressing unlock on your fob or on your central lock, but nothing happens;
6) the only ingress and egress to your Disco is through the driver's side front door;
7) you can't unlock any of the doors by pulling the interior door handle for any of your doors except your driver's side front door; and
8) you can only unlock your car by using the actual key in the lock on your driver's side front door.
9) you've checked all of your fuses and they're all in good shape, and not blown.

Solution:
You may need to change out your interior fuse box/block located under the steering wheel, behind the "fusebox facia." (If you have a 99-02 Disco, the fusebox original LRN Part # is
YQE000410. If you have an '03-'04 Disco, the original fusebox LRN Part # is YQE000251) What has likely happened is that your Disco likely had the infamous leak from the top left corner of the windshield (do a search on this site on solutions for this immediately, by the way). This water and condensation has slowly worked its way down into the fusebox and has fried or corroded your IDM (Intelligent Driver Module). Alternatively, there is a burnt out circuit or relay inside that box, but regardless, replacing the box solved this problem.

In reality, your car was probably "superlocked" by pressing the lock button on your fob twice, and then the short took hold and wouldn't allow those superlock latches to release (hence the inability to open the doors from within the vehicle). Pressing the unlock button (before getting a new box) will disengage the alarm, and allow the vehicle to start up, and drive, but will not manage to actually unlock the doors. Note: This really sucks when you're coming out of the parking lot at Lowe's and none of your doors will unlock (including the tailgate), and you have a cart full of stuff for a bathroom remodel weekend-job... loading through your rear windows becomes the only option.

I was able to get a used fuse block from user Will Tillery (one from a Disco from my year with less than 12K on it, which he guaranteed as well--Thanks so much, Will
) for an extremely, extremely reasonable price. It arrived quickly and was bubble wrapepd nicely.

Installation is relatively simple and straightforward, as there's merely a fastener and pin that hold that box in place.

Hope this helps anyone with this problem, if you have it. Again, no guarantees on this working for you, and take my advice at your own risk, but the above fix certainly solved my problem. Best of luck, and happy Rovering!

I just had this happen to my wife's DII and don't know how to get it open. Yesterday, my wife drove her '00 DII to her friend's house and parked in the driveway, locking the doors with the key fob as always. All the windows are up. Upon wanting to leave, she pressed the unlock button on the key fob and it won't unlock the door. I drove over and couldn't get it to unlock either. The key will not manually unlock the door either, it won't even turn. We don't know how long the key wouldn't manually work, as we have always used the remote. It hasn't shown any issues with the battery that we noticed, it always started.

Now it's blocking our friend's garage. I may have to get it towed, but we cannot get into it to put it into neutral. So, I guess it will have to be dollied? Is this the only method at this point?

Any help is greatly appreciated as we are in a real bind here. I would hate to have to bust out a window glass to get inside it.

Thanks,

Jay

You're a better man than I! I had to replace one in a flood damaged truck and the wires are just barely long enough to reach and not long enough to make the job even remotely easy.

I also had to work on a CDL issue with a '03 or '04 DII. I was so pleased when pressing the buttons made the locks worth. The owner was so pleased they didn't even mind the exorbitant programming fee.

But how do you get into the truck if all the windows are locked and the key will not manually turn and unlock the door?

Is the only option to break out a window?

Does the key turn at all? Does it click left or right at all? If I'm not mistaken (and I am truly am amateur at this, forgive me), your truck is likely superlocked. I believe there is a way to enter in some sort of code to un-superlock it by turning the key (as far as it will go) X amount of times to enter a four digit code. I've read that either on this forum, or another Rover forum, however I have never had to do it/wouldn't know where to begin.

I agree with the above post in that you should call your local 'Rover dealer on Tuesday to have them send out the rescue team. It's likely to be your best option if you can't dollie it, or don't break a window.

Enjoy your day off, and I'm sorry for the dilemma you're in on this three-day weekend.

Back from the dead....

I am experiencing the exact same problems, and have a couple questions:

1) how likely is it that it's just the fuse box? has anyone else found any other electrical gremlins that manifest themselves in this way?

2) how easy is it to actually replace that fuse box really? I am not incompetent but have never been particularly good with electronics. Is it plug and play, or is there any soldering involved?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Not to bring back an old thread, but this explains my situation EXACTLY. I had thought it was a problem with the BCU's output of the unlock signal, how likely is it that this is the fuse box instead?

My key fob will lock but not unlock the car, same goes with the interior switch. Upon pressing unlock, the truck lights flash but the latches stay down. Until today, I Was able to climb around the truck and manually pull the latches to unlock the other doors, but I think my dad may have superlocked it, and I have absolutely no way of disabling the superlock, thus not being able to open any door besides the drivers door!

Can anyone shed some light on this? I'll pull the fuse box, is there any physical signs I can look for on it to diagnose it as bad? After finding that a used BCU won't work and a new one is over $500, I'd LOVE for it to be the fuse box.

Were you able to check out your fuse box?

Just to throw it out there, this has happened to me on 2 separate occasions. The first time, I replaced the interior fuse box, as the initial poster suggested. The second time it happened to me, replacing the battery fixed the problem.

Quick question, I have all of these problems but... first it was all the problems but no super lock, and then for awhile my dash unlock button would work fine if the car was running...and then everything went south and I have all the above problems, this time including superlock and no dash unlock functionality. Please let me know if anyone knows what I should do....
