That's a pretty good lookin truck. I wonder what evil lurks beneath the surface....this would scare me: "The last 4 years it has only been driven about 4000 miles per year."

What's wrong with that? I drive 7,000 miles per year total between both of my Rovers. If a truck sees regular maintenance and doesn't sit unused for extended periods of time, why should low annual mileage be a concern?

My only concern with the low mileage is making sure the engine was able to heat and cool. I still say the main reason my 4.6 slipped a liner at 100k miles was the lack of getting through a reasonable heat cycle. I was only driving about 3 miles each way for work. The truck never really reached a good temp.

That doesn't answer my question. Without knowing a detailed history of the prior owner's driving patterns there is no way to determine how the truck was used to travel that distance. Here are three different scenarios of how it could have racked up 4,000 miles per year:

1. Truck was driven on a 77-mile trip once per week.
2. Truck was driven 3ish miles per trip, 3 times a day.
3. Owner drove cross country via the scenic route over a 1-week span, once per year, and the truck sat the rest of the time.

Each of these scenarios reflects very different driving patterns and they all add up to 4,000 miles per year. You might argue that one of these scenarios is better for the truck than the others. So to say that low annual miles would "scare you" makes no sense without knowing how those miles were driven.

Yep. My 2004 Saab has about 28k miles. Yet I?ve owned since new and know it is in great condition engine / drivetrain / body wise.

Just purchased a 2004 Audi A4 Quattro Avant with 75k. All service records. Not as clean as the Ssab yet great shape.

Personally look for the lowest mileage and best serviced rust free vehicle.

My ’94 Rangie is driven about 2k per year as it doesn’t see a salted road during the Winter.

This is my G4. It has had all service and repairs by British 4x4 in Reno. It is not my daily driver anymore. So it is used for a couple desert trips a year, and running my girls to various sporting events. Hence the 4k miles per year. I have not fixed the front corner because I had intended to put an ARB bumper on it. Then about 10 days ago I decided to sell it because I miss our LR3 that we sold when my wife bought her 2013 GT edition Range Rover Sport. So I'm in the market for an LR3. I haven't been on DiscoWeb for a couple years and decided to see if anyone was selling a slightly modified LR3. Then I saw this thread and wondered if it was mine. If you have any other questions just ask. If I had more room at my house I would keep it forever. It has been a great truck.

Your obsession with the question scares me.

Would it put you at ease if I rephrased it to say, “This would scare me until I properly understood the owner’s driving patterns and how the 4,000 miles accumulated per year.” I’d be wary (aka scared) of a Disco that sits for long periods of time. Cooling system is a major concern as Bueller pointed out.

I understand that low miles does not necessarily equal bad. I drove my Porsche less than 6,000 miles this past year. A few short trips around town per week and longer open ‘er up 30+ mile trips at least once every 2 weeks.

On a G4 side note...(no pun intended)...does anybody know where to get the side decals (strips) for the G4. Mine never had them. I'm not sure I really want them but it might be nice to set aside for "someday". I've been able to track down the small G4 badges but not the rest of the kit

I looked for years and finally found a set at a dealer. I think it was missing one of the front decals or it came with an extra. Can't exactly remember. Anyway, don't think there are any out there anymore. I bought a replica set off Ebay before I found this one and it was shit. I still have the extra set in the cardboard. I'm considering taking my stripes off now and just putting on a door decal similar to the actual G4 trucks. I think that looks cleaner than the blue stripes.

Believe it or not I purchased mine off eBay a few years back. They were reprints but identical to the factory originals and only $99. I can’t remember or find the sellers info. They were printed on 3m vinyl and have been awesome. Tough and have not faded.
