My 5-month road trip around the country is approaching its twilight. I'm thinking of passing through the Joshua Tree NP area next month on my way home to Seattle. I'll have a few days in the area and would like to explore off pavement in my LR3, either in JTNP or Anza Borrego or both. I have a hitch-mounted rack with two bikes and I would rather not drive on rougher surfaces with them bouncing around on the back.
Question: is there a secure place in the vicinity where I could leave the bikes and rack for 3-4 days while I venture off pavement? I'd prefer a location that isn't too far out of the way: I'd likely be approaching from the east on I-10 and would probably continue west on I-10 as well. Maybe somewhere in the Indio/Coachella neighborhood?
