I want a Silverado but GM is just stupid about what they’re building right now. I want to use it around the shop. Plow and haul stuff. So up till ‘23 model year you couldn’t get a regular cab and a short bed. Now they offer it in a 1500 serried truck but here’s the rub. It looks like according to Chevy’s website that 1500 series trucks can only be had with that little 4 cylinder. I hope I’m wrong but just going by the website.

Maybe it’s just the RCSB that gets only that motor. Two of my friends just got 23s delivered, both 5.3/10spd. And both got a few hundred bucks credit on the stop/start and cylinder deactivation delete due to chip shortage.

I just figured it out. The short bed is only available with the 2.7 4 cylinder.
8 ft bed can get the 5.3. It’s turbocharged ? Looks like it gets the 10 speed trans you said was better.

The 2.7 is a turbo.

I think all the 1500s regardless of motor have the 10 speed now. In the configurator you’ll see the stop start delete plus a credit.

Are dealers in your area still trying to charge a market adjustment fee?
One of my friend ordered his, got it for sticker. The other is a fireman and was able to get his off the lot for sticker since his department buys so many trucks.

It seems like the demand is slowing down.

I think come summer things will get back to normal. All those market adjustment fees have a lot of people upside down in loans. Those cars are at the age when a lot of people are wanting to trade out of them. So since they can’t trade out because they owe more than it’s worth, the finance companies are starting to stab each other in the back. It’s going to be like the ‘08 crash in the housing market. Lots of defaults and repossessions coming.
I expect to pay less than sticker this summer.

It wasn’t long ago paying sticker price (or more) was rare unless it was a unique vehicle. I can’t imagine it won’t be long before that is normal again. When I purchased my Canyon it was $7000 under sticker price. That was in 2017.

On GM trucks in general, aside from the diesels, the only really bad things I have heard about are the 8 speed transmissions. If I had purchased a gas version of the Canyon I would likely be quite happy with my purchase. My Canyon reminds me of a former girlfriend. It is great most of the time, treats me well, and is good looking but occasionally out of nowhere it is real bitch and expensive.

Also, I know you are a good distance from Collinsville, IL. You should at least check Laura Buick GMC inventory and pricing.

It may be worth the drive to buy there. I don’t know about since Covid, but before Covid they had the largest inventory in the nation second only to a dealer in Oregon. It took 20 minutes of driving in a golf cart to find the truck I wanted. When I was there I spoke to people that traveled hundreds of miles to buy there. Also, no other dealer could come within $1000 of their price for my truck. However, beware of the incredible hard sell for an extended warranty. It also took 3 hours to process the sale because they were so busy, and I didn’t finance. The wait would have been much longer if I was financing with them. I didn’t have a trade in either. I’m sure that would have added to the wait as well.

I’m in Carbondale about every 6 weeks to check on my daughter. So that’s not too far off. I’ll check them out. I kind of have a local dealer that I have a long relationship with. But they just sold. My parts girl is gone, couldn’t find my salesman last time I was in there.

They are not great for customer service, at least not in 2017. But their prices and inventory could not be beat.

The problem I have is I want a standard cab. It appears I’m one of very few people who want a truck like that.I’ll probably have to order one. I checked Laura’s inventory and they have nothing

Bummer, I looked as well. The good thing I noticed, while no help to you, is everything was priced under sticker price by about $3000 for most of them. I guess the utility companies and those like them must order standard cabs. Seems silly to me they don’t at least stock some standard cabs as I am sure you are not the only one that would want one.

I think Chevy just went thru some changes. Like a facelift but not a platform change? I don’t really understand cause I can’t see much different, but when that happens and even when the model year just changes over they make the standard cab trucks last. So in time I’ll find one. I did notice they had good pricing.
I’m driving the wheels off my old Cruze right now. If it breaks on one of these road trips I’m just buying a truck and dragging the Cruze home.

The 22s got an all new interior. Anything older it’s like 2016 inside, honestly embarrassing.

Yes, if you want a standard cab with any real features you'll likely have to custom order it.
Back in 2002 I wanted a 2500 standard cab with the deluxe interior and some other heavy duty features. There wasn't anything even halfway close to it on a dealer lot in a nation wide search. So special order was the only way to get it.

Yeah it’s messed up. I don’t understand why it’s so weird to just want an old fashion regular old pickup truck. I’m not hauling people just stuff.

Ok so some of you guys have more recent experience with GM trucks. I have a couple questions about when the stuff kind of went to shit.
The stuff I grew up fixing was a lot of drivetrain work for the generous General. So if it had a 4L60 trans and the auto 4 wheel drive. Ring and pinions singing or clunking. None of that stuff scares me at all. I’ve fixed tons of those front drive axles and all the burnt up t cases due to the front axle shitting the bed.
So what year truck would I have to buy to get all the older systems that I’m more used to. Like 2017?

GMT900, 07-14. You’d want an 09+ though for the 6 speed auto and the early AFM sucks on the half tons. AFM not an issue on the HD trucks.
