The early ones grenaded the engines from oil starvation right?

What did they do differently/correctly on the HD's?

yea, it wiped the cam out. The HD trucks didn’t get AFM, pretty sure they still don’t on current models.

I thought you bought a skid steer? If so use it. Don't put a plow on your truck unless you have a really large area to plow, or you plan on making money off of it. Plow=uber wear and tear.
Oh gosh. Thanks for your very insightful advice. You’re much smarter than myself and I can always use more financial advice.

We have to plow the parking lots at the inn and restaurant/wedding venue. If your goal is to fuck a truck up putting a plow on it is a great way to do it, IMO.

Unless you're plowing a large area something like this on a skid steer will be a lot better option.

Well, I have about 8 tenths of an acre of parking lot. I’m looking for a skid steer but I haven’t bought one yet. I have a line on an older NewHolland for 7 grand. It belongs to a guy I’ve known for a while and he says he loves the thing.
But as far as the truck, I need a truck. And I pay a lot for sno removal at 2 properties. I get considerably more snow than southern Indiana gets.

Ok I googled that. I think I saw one in one of those police interceptors made by Holden in Australia. Same basic platform as the Pontiac GTO they made down there.

When I lived in southern Indiana I use to pray for snow as after cleaning the parking lot at the club they had no problem with me using their equipment to plow drives. I could make thousands in a day or two. Sadly we could go years without seeing any measurable snow. Here in Indy if we only do snow removal two or three times a years it's a good year. It has been a number of years ago but we did SR thirteen weekends in a row one winter. A normal year is about 4-7 snow events the require removal. I fucking hate snow.

My canyon has the 6l50 6 speed. GM has used that trans in all kinds of vehicles for many years. It was a rock solid transmission with a great reputation. Now, they have shudder issues but not nearly as bad as the 6l80. The shudder is the torque converter eating itself. GMs fix is different trans fluid. I wasnt having problems but changed to the new fluid. I didnt have any problems through 60,000 miles. I installed a trans tune when the warranty expired at 60,000 miles to eliminate the torque filtering. I’m no longer concerned about the torque converter / trans with the tune. It now locks up when and how older vehicles with this trans did. I understand why GM has so much torque filtering in the diesels and it isn’t with reliability in mind.

When I was considering what to buy, the 6l50 and it’s great reputation was a factor in my decision. The 2.8 diesel, previously used by Jeep years ago also had a great reputation. A version of the 2.8 had also been sold outside the US and had a great reputation. Those factors weighed heavily on my decision to with the canyon diesel. Well, somehow that combo got all jacked up for the US market. Throw in the emissions issues and the crappy factory engine and trans tune and… well...

GM is great at taking good idea and fucking it up. They’ve finally redeemed themselves with the new AT4X Sierra, its got all the goodies and looks great. I’d plunk down the (probably) $100k for an AEV one if I had the cash.

when the ZR2 Colorado came out I was ready to buy one with the 2.8, then I sat in one and couldn’t believe the price they charged for it. That and the back seat was cramped.

Yeah the back seat. The only good reasons I’ve heard for having that extra cab is a place to put my tools, or a place for my dog. So for me it would be a place for my dogs. Problem is I keep big dogs, 135 lbs is average. So no room for a dog.

Seem to recall the transfer case being a weak point, even in the AT4X, with it randomly jumping out of 4wd. Think this was highlighted in a review on Overland Journal

For the Tacoma I looked at a back seat delete by Goose Gear. IDK if the make it for other models. I pulled the seat, installed sound deading material and installed a molle panel. Then I'm making my own platform.

On the back seat being cramped, my son is getting older and is taller / bigger than my wife. He is probably only months from growing out of the back seat in the Canyon. I either will need a bigger truck or I can shift my son up front with my wife going to the back seat. I brought it up to her and mentioned she could do her back seat driving from the backseat.

Ha.

for me it was fitting a rear facing car seat… It was tighter than the LR4.
