Garmin 276C with a RAM mount. Works like a champ and I can also use on my smaller boat. I take it with me when I travel and rent cars. Its an awesome unit.

I have a Streetpilot IIIC. It's nice. You can score them pretty cheap now if you can find one. I'd rather have something like a 276 though.

What I really want is that one that's coming out that will show you the weather. I love the idea of a semi-active weather radar map in my car. :D

Cheers,

Kennith

I use the Garmin etrex legend C. Handheld unit, color screen, almost all the features of a street pilot, and with the model specific windshield mount it is perfect for most uses. Plus it has a DL section specifically for geocaching.

I use the Etrex Summit. It has elevation tracking, an altimeter. I use this for tracking summit attempts, and te help pin point my position on a climb. It also has a fairly good preloaded street map. It does everything I want it to, but think about what you need one for.

i agree. the 276C is pretty sexy if you can swing it. i have the older 176 and several Garmin 60Cs. the small ones are nice for carrying around and so on, but the larger 276C has a nice big screen and tons more features for in-car use.

That sounds like The Garmin 376C http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap376c/

It has XM Radio too, and it looks like the price is down: MSRP $999

There is also the Garmin 3005C http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap3005c/, but I don't think it is intended to be a stand-alone unit. It seems to be designed for larger vessels that need displays in multiple locations. Might be cool for a motorhome though.

There are also Laptop solutions for the weather available at http://www.xmradio.com/weather/. This would be something that I might go for, since -- to answer the original question -- I use an IBM thinkpad with Fugawi, OziExplorer and MS Streets and Maps.

To mount it I use a Jotto Desk

I have the Garmin 376C in my Disco, my wife's Disco has a Streetpilot 2620. The Freelander had a 182C which has the best topo display of any GPS I've owned, but it's now sitting in a box in my garage until I get my Rangie restored.
The 376 can be had much cheaper than retail with some careful shopping. It replaced my other XM receiver (although slightly less user friendly) but the weather capability ROCKS, especially if you travel a lot like i do.

Thats what I like about my GPS V , the auto routing, when I am heading out to new customers it's great.

Drawbacks are the screen size, and limited (non-expandable) memory. If I am going far I always take my laptop so that I can reload new sections of map info.

I have an old Garmin GPSIII+ which still works great but, I'm looking to get either a Garmin GPSMAP 60CS or GPSMAP 276c.. The GPSIII+ is the older version of the GPSV it just doesn't have the auto route or speaker and I think it has less memory ( the reason why I want a new one ).. Plus, I want one that will do Bluechart for fishing..

So far 60cs and the 276c are my only two choices as they seem to be the best all around choice for a land/water gps that aren't too big... The only hard part for me is trying to figure out which one of the two that I want..

From looking and messing around with my friend's Mag and Low models I'll only get a Garmin.. In my opinion the Garmins are just the nicer, better, GPSs out there.

Allright Steve, I have been dying for the 376 to be officially released. I have seen them for sale on Ebay but I have been hesitant to buy becuase I thought they might be pre-production models that still have development issues. So where did you pick your up? And more importantly, what are the issues that make the XM receiver less user friendly? I want to replace the two seperate GPS systems and my XM reciever in my truck, plus get the XM WX and I am getting impatient.

I use my old beater Fujitsu laptop and a Delorme LT-10 receiver with the Delorme software. Not as portable as a smaller unit, but I really enjoy having the larger screen. I run the laptop off a permanently mounted power inverter. It's fits my lifestyle using this set up cause when I go camping/travelling I have a DVD player as well.

276C does do auto-routing. It talks to you too. :D I have mine hooked up through my stereo speakers. A little British English kicks ass!

eric. the 60CS is identical to the 60Cs that i have with the exception of a few features. i have them because they are being used for walking around 50% of the time and in the trucks 50% of the time. much more of a mobile unit than the 276C. the 276Cs are much more oriented to the trucks. not that you can't use the batteries in them and walk around with it, but the size does not make it as easy. the 60C (and CSs) have belt clips and all that. the 276Cs have more features and memory for downloading map sets, etc.
i bought 4 Garmin 60Cs at some great prices about 7 months ago. i'd imagine they are coming down even more in price. i think i paid around $300 for my 60Cs.
i'd rather have a 276C for my full time GPS unit in my truck with this being said. the 60CSs are just more mobile, etc.

I'm leaning more toward the 60 for the portability and the fact that it takes batteries instead of a built in rechargable one.. At least from the Garmin site that's how they put it.. Does the 276 have a removable battery pack or is it one of those built in ones that you can't replace?
