right, and if I can get into it in 5 minutes how long does it take a pro?

Its not good for much other than keeping kids and nosey guests out

How long did it take you to figure out where to drill? ;)

I never said a completely crappy safe is a good idea. The problem with crappy safes is the fact that everyone knows that it's a crappy safe. As well, many of them can simply be put on a hand truck or carried.

Once you have a proper safe, it's all about time. The safe provides the delay, but it's your responsibility to ensure that the delay is long enough. A safe is only the beginning.

Security is what comes next.

Cheers,

Kennith

i just have a cheap sentry 20 gun safe at the moment. I'd like to get a real nice one at some point but they can be really pricey. Besides, I only have a few guns to store for now. If my dogs dont scare the thief off I'm sure the noise of someone trying to knock my safe off of its anchors would at least alert my neighbors

if its the same as the stack on I got for free its a piece of crap. I didn't have a key and to get a replacement was a pain in the ass. It took less than 5 minutes of drilling with an almost dead harbor freight drill to open it up.

Mine doesnt have a key. So there :D

I dont really care if a thief comes in and breaks it open. Its really more of a way of locking up my stuff from my kids.

about 5 minutes, aimed right at the middle of the key hole.

I didn't even have to drill all the way through, just enough to get through the brass decorating shim thing then there was enough slack in the assembly to twist.

Buy a crappy one, connect a straight wire from a wall switch ( flip it everynight or when not home ) and presto *LMAO*
best idea so far... needs a flame thrower or OC fogger though for the overkill

I love it when guns just 'go off'.

As if the only thing keeping it from firing is good will and the grace of angels.

My dad knew a guy (and was sworn to secrecy as to his identity and where the "safe" is in the house) who was either a dentist or a mortician.

His safe was built out of the basement. If you did not disarm the alarm, in addition to locking the house, setting off sirens and calling the state police (he had lots of class III stuff), it also gassed the entrance with vomisite. A gas that has very unpleasant side-effects.

It was claimed he had at least a mil just in his Browning collection. Browning machine guns!

Safes are only as good as the tools one has. Given the proximity of my shop to my house, I doubt there would be much of anything safe for long.

Some of the best practice,... not to mention can do as cheap a Nitrous Oxide for when you are home ( will wake up the world ), or some home brewed " Mustard Gas " some people want Fort Knox , I want more Fire Protection than Breaking Point, you can always place few "OLD SCHOOL" tricks to deter the openning or complete removal.
