Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, strikes again. Replaced the $150 turn stalk and everything worked well for a year. Today I changed out the light in the clock and the dash lights, glove box and running lights suddenly died. Checked all fuses and they were good. Then wiggled the connectors going to the turn signal stalked and suddenly worked again. Old adage in aviation; it it won't work, reset the canon plug (connector). Works on C-130's and C-5's

Look at the glove box light wires. They run over a sharp edge of a support bracket and tend to get chafed.
Can i Just unhook these? I have problems with my lights dimming randomly and I noticed the connection for these is not great. Curious if it will have any effect.

Sure, I think you can do that.
Thanks, I should have asked it differently. I know I can unhook them but would it potentially have an effect on my auto-dimming for my dash lights/stereo? It feels like something is causing it to think the lights are off and tripping to dash to brighten but the headlights are never turning off when this happens. I do see a noticable drain when my blinkers are on. It will go up and down .30v when they are on.

Ive also been chasing down an issue with my alternator voltage jumping up and down while under load. It had previously killed 1 alternators beforehand so now I just carry and extra with me. I do not see any parasitic drain while off but it will vary from 13.5-14.0 on most days while running, less if hot out (without AC) and sometimes when it first starts up it will be at 14.10 but once im driving ill drop down. It typically averages out to about 13.8. I know this isnt terrible but Id like to have stabilized.

I want to learn more about diagnosing electrical issues but not sure how to go about this one. I suspect its in the lighting system somewhere but not sure how to track it down and if I just start pulling bulbs until it evens out. It could also be an issue with my belt slipping but its relatively new (past 6 months i think, time flies) so I dont think its that. It does not respond differently with RPM increase.

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread.

I don't think so. I think that what happens in that circuit is because the wire grounding out on a sharp edge of a bracket. The short doesn't pop the fuse because it's after the reostat. It just drops the voltage in all the dash lights. If your driving down the road with the glove box light out of the crcuit it's no diffewrent than running down the road with your glove box light off.
