i've got a 96 disco with a 5 speed manual. was driving to work today and making a left turn through a busy intersections, then i hear a 'clunk' and think to myself.. what the hell was that, will check that out later.. tired to continue my turn and engine revs but doesn't move. tired 1st, 2nd and reverse and nothing. tried to put it in low and still nothing, locked difs on high and low and nothing. Any ideas what this might be?
take care

did a quick inspection and looked at the drive shafts and they looked fine.. also tried to move them by hand while in gear and it wouldn't turn... as far as axel goes, no didn't check them but figured if i had the diffs locked, i should get power to 1 axel, can't imagine both going at the same time while driving on the street...
almost seemed like i was in neutral and just stepping on the gas...

ok.. so i'm sitting at work and have calmed down abit and am not all bitter and pissed... when i put it in gear, for awhile i wasn't thinking and didn't have the clutch in.. aws in first, not moving and didn't stall... so am thinking maybe my clutch went... or could it be my ******? if it was the axel or drive shaft it still would have stalled would it not?

I vote for the T-case. You may want to pull the T-case fill plug, put it in gear, let out on clutch, crawl under (thats the nervous part), and look in that fill plug. You should be able to see an intermediate gear. If it is turning - and maybe spilling a little oil on your driveway - then you know the problem is likely in the T-case. If it is not, then it is in the trans.

For safetys sake you could even put the T-case in neutral because the intermediate gear turns if the transmission is turning. It is not dependent on the state of the T-case.

will try that tonight and see... also getting it towed to a mechanic as if it's transfer case, ****** or clutch, it's something i can't do in my drive way as i don't have the proper equipment.. will keep you updated... really hope it's not my gear box as it's going to be $$$ and that'll be the cash i was saving to get a winch and a new bumper... :(
wonder why it stars out t_r_a_n_n_y .....
