Youre wrong.. Any time you change either of the pinion bearings you have to re set your pinion preload. Since the shims are thousands of an inch, any small change in bearing size changes bearing preload. The shims change the distance between the two bearings to set preload. So it doesnt matter if you dick with the inner our outer bearing. Too tight, it overheats and dies.. Too loose... You get the point. More shims less preload, less shims more preload. Checked with only the pinion bearings and pinion in with nut torqued to spec.. Its measured with a dial or beam style ft lb torque wrench.. Did you re use the old race? Put the old bearing back in and put the pinion flange back on before you fuck something else up dip shit

this exactly what I tried to explain to another nimrod know it all whom argued me about his past experiences
performing said conversion with out having to reset preload.
finally he challenged me in a futile effort on other types of rover diffs and my experience with them.
too many weekend cowboys with too much improper info... oh well it is their own vehicles which get fucked.
mine and my clients are just well.
congrats for bringing it to the surface Jake...
the last effort I made on helping someone with this is listed as (rotoflex conversion nightmare)... since then I have had the same attitude you have developed... fuck everyone I give advise based on experiece and knowledge not on hearsay.

LOL Said conversation was between you and I if my memory serves me correctly.. And you made a point that wasnt true. Changing the pinion flange does NOT change the pinion preload. Like I said in my last post it is set by how far apart the pinion bearing are based on shims. Changing a flange doesnt effect that.. Changing a bearing and using an already used race does..

Back to setting up this toy v6 rear diff ;)

I've never seen the official tool. This is one I made based upon a suggestion from LRRF. It was successful in removing mine. I either went really slow, only a few turns of the bolt at a time, with kits if PB Blaster; or I went really fast using an impact. I think it was slow and keeping the threads cool that did the trick.
Where does one find the official tool and how much is it?
