Do you tow with your D2? If so what, how much, how big, how heavy, and how far?

How does the 4.6 perform on long trips, crossing mountain ranges, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

LOL, thanks Dan. Family ops dicate certain requirements for a larger vehicle.....aka new pig.

I wish for one time in your life you would stop thinking for yourself! You know that baby girl would feel better driving to high school in a Defender vs a Dingo. I mean hell, if you were 17 years old again, what would you think about a girl driving a Defender to school????

you have to start thinking retirement now!! with a defender, your daughter may end up meeting a man that can pay your bills and for her education!

Everytime I mention FJ, H3, JK, etc; the St. Louis peeps apply the proper peer pressure to reel me back in. LOL.

Okay, back to business. Every where I search on Al Gore's internets, the towing capacity (braked) is 7700 lbs. But I haven't found unbraked yet.

You probably would not want to pull much over 1500lbs unbraked. 2000lbs tops, IMO.

The search tool provided:

Maximum towing capacities - on-road in high range:
Maximum trailer weight is 5500 lb. For vehicles with coil springs, the maximum tongue weight is 385 lb, and the load in the vehicle should be limited to 450 lb (equivalent to driver and 2 passengers). For vehicles with self levelling suspension, a tongue weight of 550 lb should be used and the load in the vehicle should be limited to 600 lbs equivalent to driver and 3 passengers).

5. Maximum towing capacities - on-road in low range:
Maximum trailer weight is 7716 lb. Maximum tongue weight is 550 lb. Vehicle loading should be restricted as follows
1. Coil spring rear suspension - 450 lb (equivalent to driver and two passenger?s).
2. Self levelling rear suspension - 600 lb (equivalent to driver and three passenger?s).
All occupants should be seated in the first and second row seats.

But this was from a guy with a '00 D2 and the 4.0.

LOL...no boat. The wife unit wants a tow-behind camper. Everytime we camp, it rains; and I have learned that it could be my fault. So she has been looking at 22-24' camping trailers that so far fall into the weight range of 3200# empty - 4799# loaded. This is something that I only forsee being used 4 to 5 times a year and going no farther than 500 miles from home. Again, I am just trying to figure all of this out.

Some folks buy some nice campers and set them up at a park or whatever for the year. Then everything is set up for whenever.....

We bought our 4.6 because we tow a 2600+ lbs trailer. We load the truck up, plus a roof rack on the truck and/or trailer. The single axle hard sided trailer was always a bear to tow -- hate it!! But the tent trailer is hardly noticable in most towing situations. I actually have to remind myself it is there before going into corners or up or down hills.

I have an 04 HSE with the sls, I have a 10 foot single axle, we put a pallot of sod on there and they told us it weighed a little over a ton. I had no problems pulling it. Also, I haul my duck blind on a 16 foot double axle and I would say all of it weighs a good 3000 pounds. I just gave my self plenty of room to stop, etc and it was fine.
