Bosch ERR6413 I think is the part number.

My cousin bought a 150 from BPUtah a while back for his 2000.

I got a new 150A for mine. It was a Bosch AL0807N. I think all of the Motronic P38s had the 150A alternators which are direct drop-ins for the D2s.

So what would the stock alternator be in a 2004 Disco ? It's Bosch right? Meaning all the stuff on top of the engine. Along those lines, what output would the one in my 96 disco be?

I've had dual battery systems on both of those for years and they stay charged, unless parked not being driven enough of course. For long periods I just plug the D2 into an on board installed trickle system to keep it all happy.

No, 03 and 04 have Valeo alternators, but the Bosch should work.

I was getting confused by the top of the engine system being called "bosch", i think. People refer to different era rovers as Bosch or other so I wasn't sure if that had anything to do with it.

The nicknames referring to engines often reflect their management systems since the V8 blocks themselves are similar across the US models they appear in (with displacements enlarged for different capacities: 3.9/4.0, 4.2, 4.6). These can be generally grouped as:

14CUX: includes Range Rover Classic (before a certain year they were 13CUX, I forget when the changeover happened), 1994-1995 Disco 1, 1994-1995 Defenders.

GEMS: includes Disco 1 1996-1999, Defender 1997, and Range Rover P38 1996-1998

Bosch: includes Disco 2 1999-2004, P38 1999-2002

Confused yet? Things get really kooky when guys put an older 14CUX engine management system on a newer 4.6 block.

Perfectly clear really. My 96 is the GEMS and the 04 the Bosch.

I'm trying to learn more about my 04 now that I've basically had enough with trying to make the lr3 into a large tire rig. The 04will be fun to use with lockers in the summer or snow chains in the winter with all the clearance around the tires that the lr3 just doesn't have even with a 31.5" tire. Not for snow chain use anyway.

I think if we'd had the option to buy a nice used, factory spec, tdi Disco 2, I'd have never even considered the lr3 in the first place. The cost of converting a perfectly good running/functioning factory v8 seems a bit silly but last summer when I was in Yellowstone, a couple from Switzerland were camped next to me with an absolutely glorious sounding D110 with the td5 I think. They'd pulled the hood letters and had custom made in same font "Baghera". The D110 was all black of course. 270 awning, RTT, totally built interior for 2 person bench sit/cook/sleep platform conversions.

When they started up to leave it nearly brought tears of appreciation/envy.

I know the feeling. Last weekend I shared a campsite with a Tdi D110. Love the sound. The 200/300Tdi engines don't have a lot of fans on Discoweb but from the time I spent in Africa I fell in love with those engines. The low-end torque and slow speed control are perfectly suited to the application. If you're not in a rush to get anywhere they are fantastic. I keep thinking about a conversion...

Mean Green used my DII as a pattern for a new casting a few years back. They might be able to get you something if you call.

Cheers,
