In hopes of not opening an oil debate....

Guys with LR4 5.0L engines and high miles that have had NO engine issues- what oil change interval, brand, and weight of oil have you used? I know there’s a lot of LR4’s out there that have had no engine issues (even before late 2012).

Ill be doing my first change soon with a full synthetic 5W20 and follow a 5k interval most likely.

Just an anecdotal study here.... 🍿

Theres a few deep deep pages on land rovers only (I think) about oil changes. Theres a guy (forgot his name) on the forums who had a 200k+ LR4 and did 7500mi OCIs with Mobile 1 5w20.

A couple hundred ago I did my first with the Castrol OEM 5w-20, prob will let that stick 7500 mi. Not sure if I'll continue to use that oil though since its about $100+ an oil change.

For future reference, where do you source the OEM oil? I see Atlantic British carries it as part of a kit but I didn't see it in stock at O'Reilly last I checked.

I’ll go look over there too. I don’t want to post the same thing in multiple forums, but may commit the faux-pax of doing so in the interest of science 🧐

Yup, AB. Got the whole kit.. it’s like $130 or 140? It came with 9 qts, I used 8. Sucked it through the filler w my extractor pump.

I just had my 75K mile service performed at a local, well-respected independent Rover shop. 8 quarts of Castrol Edge 0w-20. Suggested change interval of 7,500 miles or less if running hard in heat and off-road. I'll have it changed every 5K miles.

Maybe not for everybody but I buy Amazon Basics oil and spend some of the savings to the used oil tested. I try to stay between 7500-8000 mi intervals.

I used that on my Silverado and the Blackstone tests showed that it was alright. WalMart Supertech tested way better.

I think you should run 0w20. They didn't change anything in the engine and changed the spec to 0w20. I run it in my chevy cruze with a 1.4L I change that every 5 or 6k. That thing has about 185k on it. I also run it in my 13 LR2 with the 2.0L That has about 110k on it. Both of those call for 5w20 . Castrol 0w20 I put that shit in everything. But not an old Disco.

I imagine that’s what AB will start selling when their stock of Castrol Pro OE 5W20 runs out.
