Any clever repairs that are not vice grips for a broken T-handle on one before I order a new one and go through the install? It was very tough to pull anyway so I am probably due.

I don't think they are different. But when you put it in, plan on taking the hood latch out of the core support and freeing it up. That latch binding is more than likely the reason the handle broke off the cable.

Probably just length, I searched in the UK and the same number came up as a Defender. since they don't give the length in the specs it is hard to tell.

I bought a replacement cable and I think it was too long and/or the crimp pulled off the end. Either way it was an easy fix, and it's been working well ever since. This was on a 94 D1.

This might not be a great fix for everyone, but here's what I did.

(1) Cut the cable & housing about halfway along the run from the headlight to the firewall.
(2) Threaded the cut cable out of the grill on the driver's side
(3) Removed the cable, cut housing to just peak out of the grill.
(4) Reinstalled cable, used a loop ("Standard Wire Rope Thimble") and clamps to make a little spot to pull. I used the u-bolt style clamps just to see how well this would work. I'll replace them with crimps someday.

Now, I can open the hood from the outside of the truck. This is great if you have a dead battery and can't get back inside to open the hood and charge the battery. Since it's only about 12 inches of cable/housing, it's not kinked or bound up and is easy to pull. Tucked a little behind the grill, you wouldn't notice it unless you knew it was there.

Or do nothing and just reach behind the Rover logo on the grill and pull it. I’ve been doing it for about 10yr now.

Drove my ‘96 D1 for 16 years and the cable was always ‘tough’ to pull. Wasn’t until I got my current ‘95 RRC that I discovered they can be buttery smooth...

Got my part from the vendor, they did not list the manufacturer. I opened the package and saw Shitpart! Not sure what to do now. I dont want to go through the install twice.

Installed a Britpart on a 99 D1 last year, Had no issues out of it.
Have one on my 97 D1, again no issues.

Shitpart seems inevitable these days. I bought a ProFlow water pump. It showed up in a red box saying " PROFLOW by britpart".
I have a Shitpart hood release cable, no problems so far.
