There are more chicken with teeth than those who are willing to pay 8k for a respray on a D1, especially one that appears to be used off-road. For 1-2k, a person can have everything they need for a nice respray, except the skill, safety equipment, time, and space to do it. If that's not in the cards, then look into a DIY gloss wrap. Wraps still require a lot of time and skill though. Matte wraps and Raptor look like shit.

Exactly. Even though the price is coming up on them it’s just not worth it to respray them.

I can tell from your post you didn't really look at the link I provided. Nor did you go out and research Raptor Liner or give it any real consideration. There is a ton of advice and info if you look. You can alter the surface by the gun you use, the psi you use, the distance you keep the gun from the surface, and if you reduce it. You can give it a paint like surface although most don't seem to like that.

Man that's a lot of assumptions and negativity. Not only did I read the thread you posted, I followed it to the authors blog which I also read, and have been familiar with raptor for multiple years thanks for 4WD Action (now 4WD 24/7). I've seen the smoother texture that can be coaxed out via a HVLP and reducer. Yet I still am not sure I'd be happy with the result from a cosmetic perspective. The functionality is definitely a plus though.

It definitely sees a lot of offroad use! And you're correct, the value is simply not there for an $8k respray. Are you suggesting to go with a "low quality" $1-2k job? Admittedly it'd look a lot better than it currently does.

Again it all depends on what you want. Is this D1 a keeper and one that doesn’t have rust! Those are also getting harder to find. I off road my ‘94 RRC yet also don’t abuse it on crazy rock trails. And the paint was resprayed in 2011 and holding up nicely. Yet my RRC is a keeper.

I was suggesting to do it yourself if you have the time and space to learn. Get an old panel to practice on. If I went for a Maaco job, I'd help them along by removing as much trim, glass, parts, etc as possible so they do it (somewhat) the right way. Another option would be to look for a mom and pop home shop with less overhead that do decent work.

I was planning on doing the prep work regardless. I'll definitely update the thread based on what I do.

No rust, mechanically excellent, and slowly restoring the interior. I don't abuse it, but rash/striping is unavoidable on some trails!

Agreed shit happens. Personally like all my vehicles to be presentable and maintain the paint to that end. I’d go with what ERover82 suggests for paint. Local decent shop. Wrap is an option yet has + and - . Its your Rover. Look forward to seeing what you do.

Assumptions, maybe. Negative, it's your truck not mine. At the end of the day you could take a spray can to it for all I care. To me your post came across as if you were assuming RL was akin to Line-X or any of the other numerous undercoatings there are. That is obviously not the case. That led me to believe you glossed over it somewhat . Given, as others have said, it looks like more of an off-road rig, coupled with the cost of a full on paint job I thought you should give it a closer look.

Here's a guy who used a HVLP gun on his truck.

As mentioned had the ‘94 LWB Rangie redone with original color - Alpine White - in 2011. Twelve years later still has a shine. Again it just depends on the goal. Mine was to bring it back to basically showroom as planned on keeping it. Currently in Winter hibernation mode.

I think you’re more of a collector. Most people here just want to drive it. But some people like yourself like to keep a museum quality car but that’s just another expensive hobby. Not saying it’s wrong, just a different world.

Actually use it. And took it to Europe with us while there for 5 years. Hannibal’s trail in France and camping trip in Italy. Just keep it maintained and as a RRC don’t drive in Winter with PA salt roads.

I get that. But a financial advisor would tell you spending a ton of money on it isn’t a good investment. So it’s a hobby.
Glad to see it used and it sure looks great!
Not looking at it as an investment-only a nice example of a Landy that we enjoy using. It puts a smile on my face whenever and wherever we take it. Trying to keep it going.

Thanks. We had some great trips in Europe. And for sure we got many folks checking it out! Especially the V8!

Show me a screenshot if you would. Mine did not show.
Here's what mine showed. I just plugged my VIN in and paid the $5 or whatever it was:
