Idle air code

I have changed the idle air valve 3 times, and I am still getting a code with the idle air valve. It idles very high at a cold start or if idles up and down for a minute then smoothens out. I am getting codes that it is running too lean, so this is causing it to allow too much air in the mixture. It is also causing random miss fires.
I can pinch the inlet hose to restrict some air and it will smoothen right out.
Does any one know if there is a relay I can check, or how can I check the plug to the valve to make sure it is working correctly.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
When going down the road, it runs pretty good. But it does idle a little high at stops and in park. Like between 1000-1200 RPMS.

Initially it may take a couple drive cycles before the new IAC’s play nice with everyone else. But I would also check if you have any vacuum leaks.

look for robertf's ECU re-flash tool if it doesn't settle down after a few drive cycles.

Is this a D2? You are sucking air. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around your intake and see if the engine revs up at any point.
Be sure to get it to the fuel injectors, the o rings can go bad.
If this is for a D2 the iac really doesn't require relearning like the earlier trucks.

very true rovercanus. there is a world of difference between a D1 and D2 when it comes to their different IACV's. the re-flash tool is for the D1 GEMS engine.
