Good Morning,

I have bought and collected a (registered in 2000) Discovery II Td5 from Germany (via Holland) which now lives in France.

Apart from some rust and other issues we have obviously work to do on the ECU's as there are some issues.

My good friend - also a Discovery II owner - has a NanoCom to "talk" to the vehicle.

I'd like to have that ability myself but rather than blindly buying another NanoCom, we are wondering if there are other options ?

The Hawkeye seems NLA.

Please let us hear what you think / options there are.

Thank you.

Remain friends and borrow theirs as needed. A nice bottle of wine every now and then should help.

I've looked at these things for a while. I just get confused by all the different " kits". If I wanted a scan tool to comunicate with all Land Rovers that the T4 would get used on, what would I have to buy? Would it be the hardware for all 3? P38 and the one for Disco1 and also the one for Disco2 ?
Here's a link to all the kits I'm talking about. I have found no good replacement for the original T4. I've been using what they call the T4H H stands for Heritage. That thing is a piece of shit and it costs over $2500.

Here's a link to the T4H

I got a Nanocom immediately after D2 purchase. And I used it mostly to non-engine issues (Td5 is a non-fail thing). To read 3 amigos shuttle valve error, to check autobox errors, to check ACE errors, SRS errors and to change DRL default when going to VTV control because technicians go angry when lights are on and they're working in the pit...
Regards

I use my NanoCom in the instrument mode to keep an eye on coolant temps and have an accurate speedometer.

Stew, the "kits" are a way to get all of the software modules for a type of vehicle. A single NanoCom can have the software for every vehicle they support. The CAN Cable will work for the newer CAN BUS cars, D1, D2, and some of the P38 computers.

They also make the MSV-2 which has the same functionality but can use with a laptop but it's more expensive.

That's interesting about the sofware to run on a laptop. Do you know if that needs a interface of some sort? I have to have a laptop to run all of the SDD and Pathfiner crappery so II'm sure I could find an old toughbook to run it on. I suppose I should look into that a little. I've gotta come up with something cause T4 is not easy to keep running anymore.

Thanks. That looks like a better option for me. If I'm looking at it right it would cost about 800 for all the software I would want. I think the CUX stuff I could do without.

The Nanocom hw is the same, and when adding a new LR model to fleet you can get additional sw options to complete it
From previous emails to Blackbox Solutions, they mentioned all the required Land Rover diagnostic software is already on the Nanocom when purchased. The Nanocom owner must purchase an "unlock code" to access the specific Land Rover system the owner needs.
For instance, my Nanocom is unlocked for Disco 2 Motronic petrol (Thor) and Td5 diesel engines, Range Rover P38 Motoronic Petrol (Thor) engine, and Defender Td5 diesel engine.
