Ignition coil wiring Q?

I’ve a 2000 Discovery 2 with the 4.0.

I am in the process of relocating the ignition coil pack. How do three wires going into one of the coils control four different spark plugs on both engine banks? How are each spark plug outputs triggered? Is there anyway to just put a coil on each side of the engine?

This is called a wasted spark system, that is, spark plug wires are fired in pairs (thus only three wires are needed to trigger each coil pack). Sorry, but if you aren't familiar with electrics: 1. Buy a book (or get a RAVE manual on line) 2. If not inclined to study basics, leave it alone. You could find a way to mount a coil pack on each side of the engine, if you make really long plug and control wires. Or become a hero and come up with a way to do a coil-on-plug system.

Thanks for catching me up. I was thinking along those lines just didn’t know the jargon for it. Also thought it would maybe have one power stroke and the other spark on one of the exhaust strokes. Wouldn’t a coil on plug be a waste of money? Not sure if you’d get much more out of that over a stock coil pack with higher quality spark plug wires.

I have an FSM but it doesn’t have any wiring schematics with wiring color codes. I’ve not downloaded or looked at the RAVE.
