Injectors, 8 years of inactivity

I bought a D1 with a bad engine that locked up 8 years ago. The truck only has 55,000 miles. I have a used 4.0 I plan to install but will use the intake and all the other electronics and fuel parts from the original 55k engine.

Do you think the injectors will be hopelessly clogged up after 8 years of inactivity.

Anything else likely to be useless after 8 years?

Regards,

Terry

In the past I have soaked them in Techron. Also I have used witchhunter.com for cleaning / repairing my injectors.
They will send you a data report on each injector etc.

I would buy the new GEN3 Bosch injectors, unless you're on a budget.
Check or redo all the grounds. Mice tend to use stationary vehicles for homes, so check for munched wires.
They prefer the air intake to build nests.
Clean out the water drain holes from the roof vents, if any. All kinds of small annoying creatures like to live in those.
And brakes. And brake fluid.

Well, I am on a self imposed budget. I bought the D1 to do a TDI conversion but I have what I believe is a good 4.0 sitting in my garage from a parts vehicle. It was an unexpected bonus with the parts vehicle. I can swap it in over a weekend. I thought getting it drivable for a couple years with the 4.0 would be a good choice until I have more time to devote to the TDI conversion. If I can get away with the injectors I have, I’d like to as this is not a long term thing.

Wow, the stock D1 injector is terrible in comparison. However, it seems unlikely it would clog.

Those are pretty, but I thought you were on a budget? You can probably find a decent set of used Volvo or Ford 19# injectors for far less than $440.

I recently rebuilt an engine for one of my GEMs D1s using a spare 125K engine that ran when pulled. No idea how long the spare sat, but 2 of its 8 injectors were clogged, and installing them without pulling the upper manifold (everything was all in a buttoned up before I fired it and had a misfire) took a lot of prying. Nothing like building an engine to have it misfire on first start up and think you did something horribly wrong.

In the interest of seeking the path of least resistance, I will put some lower cost new injectors in.

Project has been delayed as I couldn’t say no to another D1. However, I found a super low mileage almost ready to go engine to use, came with that D1 as a spare. It should speed up the project when I get back to it. I will use the new injectors.

Taking a peek a prices these days (I switched injectors many years ago), you can get new Bosch 0280155746 Gen III injectors (which have the notches for the retaining clip) for under $100 shipped off ebay... less than $10 each with free shipping according to one auction.

It's a no-brainer.

probably because of the 10% ethynol in the fuel. That stuff turns to varnish pretty quickly.
