The Anti Lock light is coming on intermittently on my '98 Disco I. It clears the startup and turns off after 3 mph. Typically it will stay off unless the roads are wet/snowy and then it will come on after 10-15 miles of driving and stay on until the car is turned off and restarted. If the roads are dry, it normally doesn't come on at all. Any suggestions of where to look first for problems? The brakes work as they should when the light is on. Thanks!

Your speed sensor could be faulty or dirty. You can disassemble it clean it and see if it clear the anti lock light. Or purchase a used one.

Your ABS light will remain illuminated until you reach 5MPH. Thereafter it should go off.

On a 1998 D1 you have ABS speed sensors on each hub. They are notorious for coming out of place a bit. Often simply tapping them down until they bottom out in the hub will do the trick. Other times they need to be replaced.

If you want to see which sensor may be the source of the trouble, see this procedure:

I used this guide to figure out why mine came/went. I would depress the brake pedal feel a shudder and then the light would come on. had to tap down my Front Driver side down and now its good.
