I just completed swapping in a 4HP24 into my Disco II. It went out this winter when it was about -30* F out. I had just put in a block heater and had it plugged in that night and took it for a drive in the morning. It shifted really rough and skipped around bad. After that it would not go into reverse or second gear.

So I replaced it with a '04 with 15K miles on it. I got it and the CDL shifter and linkage for $550. I learned a few things along the way. I could have re-used the Disco I CDL linkage that I had installed. Anyone want it? It did not take a lot of work to fit the longer length in as it was only slightly longer involving just a little bit of modification to the mounting holes.

While I had it apart I replaced all of the gaskets and seals in the engine, other than the head gaskets. Since I was replacing the gaskets I stuck a new timing chain and gears set in the engine as well.

Runs great and shifts very nice.
