Well I just got done with a very painful kidney stone attack! It only lasted 3 days but it felt more like a week.:ack: It's was a 3mm stone so not huge but it was NOT nice and round, so it gave me HELL!

I will be going to the Urologest next Thursday so I hope to find out alittle more about what caused it.

Has anybody here had them? and if so, what did you find to be the cause?

I get a couple a year at the very least. I do drink tons of water. Mine are not caused by calcium, but by oxylates. It is found in virtually everything. Plus I have a kidney that doesn't work so well. They are VERY painful and suck! Hope you don't have to suffer that again!

Yeah I?ve had one, but no one could tell me exactly what caused it either. I was also told that if you got one you may or may not get another, but if you get a second one then you?ll more than likely deal with them the rest of your life. I have a man right now that works for me who?s been out almost a week now with one, poor guy.

As for the pain mine hit me about 3:00 a.m. so I was kind of out of it. Got to the hospital and they gave me some painkiller and muscle relaxer and told me if that don?t help let us know, so I did. I?m not sure what the next drug was but they could have cut me open with a dull knife and pulled that stone out with a pair of needle nose pliers and I wouldn?t have cared. Here this doctor is asking me these questions and I?m so wasted I can?t begin to answer him. My wife got a laugh out of that, come to think of it so did I, although at the time I had no idea what I was laughing about.

Kidney stones are one of my biggest fears, other than brain aneurysms. (I know, I'm weird.) I had a bladder infection once, and it brought me to my knees, literally. It's somewhat uncommon for men to get bladder infections. Mine was so bad, the doctor invited all the other doctors and nurses to look at my sample through the microscope. So I can only imagine what kidney stones are like.

Yeah...I've had 'em...the oxylate kind. Doc way back when told me to drink lots of liquids and avoid dairy. Since the list included BEER, I've followed the doc's instructions religiously for decades now....

There's a new treatment for kidney stones - a lithotripter. You lay in a water bath while sound waves/impulses from four directions are focused on the stone. Since the stone is at the intersection of the waves, it gets pulverized.

Yes I too was happy to see beer on my list too! I found out they will only use the lithotripter if you have a certain size ( like huge).

Bah, 3 m/m. I used to get them almost daily. In 2000, I missed two months of work and passed one 5 X 7 m/m.

My left kidney was damaged by occupational chemical exposure (most likely cause) and now works at about 5-10%. When my father dies, I'm getting one of his kidneys as morbid as that sounds.

Good luck, drink a gallon of water each day minimum!

Yeah, drink tons of water and also put one table spoon of "braga apple cide vinager" in a 16oz glass of cold water in the morning and drink it before anything else. Works very well, helps clean all sorts of things.

I've always wondered why my 85 yr old neighbor does that, it never fails, when we go over in the morning he swallows a table spoon of vinegar.

Yeah, I've heard some amazing "stories" about what that can do for you. Try it and post your results.... I've seen some interesting results in myself. I had a friend who ran into kidney stone issues and tried this and in 2 months was fine and to date (two years) hasn't had an issue. Interesting.

I hate to disappoint anyone but believe me beer doesn?t prevent them. :(

As for the sound wave treatment, it doesn?t always work either. The doctor told me mine was to close to my pelvis, if I didn?t pass it they?d have to make an incision to get to it.

Anything that increase the frequency of urination and hydration does. Every doctor I've ever discussed this topic with indicated that a healthy dose of beer on a daily basis was likely to prevent recurrences. Of course, the same could be said about water, gatorade, etc.

Kidney disease sucks.

Well, I?ve slowed down in my old age, and having a wife and kids, but if that were really true my blood would be an effective vaccine at this point. LOL

I am 17 now in between my fourth and fifth grade school years I had them. They are hell. I was the youngest person in the hospital to have them that they had seen before. I tried to pass them but had no luck so they were going to do an out-patient surgery that was supposed to be an hour and a half to hit them with a laser. I wasn't released that afternoon like planned, unstead I was in the hospital for five and a half days. It was hell.

Pain like no other, hit me at work and had a coworker drive me to the doctor while unsucessully trying to stifle crying like a baby the whole way. Two injections of HD painkiller and then at least I could consider calming down. Off to the OR then removal and nobody mentioned stents but it didn't feel ok til they took those out.

I had a friend come and visit and he ended up having a kidney stone issue. He literally sat in a hot bath writhing in agony for 2 days. I live in fear of it happening to me one day. Didn't look like much fun.

You got off lucky then. Needless to say when the doctor tried sticking a stent in me I about broke his nose. I kicked him in his face and gave him a nose bleed.

OH ouch! No stents!!

It's been good hearing from other people who have had the misfortune of enduring one of these nasty things! And WOW RoverRideAlong you where a youngster for sure!! That's crazy. I am 29, but between my kidney stone and the invasion of gray hair I am starting to feel more like 50:p ..

Well I am off to drink some water!:seeya:

I knew Dweb HAD to have a thread on this... I TOO have just recently developed my first kidney stone and it also measures in at 3mm. I am now at home taking down the pain killers every few hours and today will begin the beer treatment.

I wouldnt wish this pain on my worst enemy...this is horrible!!!
