to split deer breast bones, split kindling and is great for knock the tops off champange bottles to impress the ladies. Only thing I can say about it is that you have to take it off if you are around people, even in places where a belt knife is acceptable. It makes you look like a serial killer.

thats perfectly fitting around these parts ain't it?

humanitarian worker in the village we were at last week had a ka-bar kukri that was a piece of work. said he used it for just about everything - that thing was solid.

From holding it, I wouldn't hesitate to own one.

Just find some Nepalese dudes and hook them up with some small small, they will get you some kukris. Those things are pretty solid.

So...what would you gentlemen recommend as a good, budget knife? I have no desire to collect these things but want a good camping knife that I can count on.

Ok, been a couple years. Lost the Twitch II but still have the other one. Time for something new.

What's the latest favorite for pocket carry with a belt clip?

You're going to have to quantify "budget". Prices are all over the place.

I've been carrying a SOG Mini Aegis (non-serrated) since November. Great knife, will probably get the full size Aegis in digi-camo soon

First time I saw that I thought it didnt have a tip. Neat concept, need to see one in person. Never been a fan of Buck Knives as of late, the older ones were awesome. Lost a really great one to sticky finger packers when I left Zimbabwe. Pisses me off to this day, awesome folder, great blade.

Recent Bucks havent inspired me much, this knife may change that.

I just picked this up last week, but with the serrated blade. The guy behind the desk printed the Life Sharp details, but the edges of the printout clipped some of the text. When I got home I read on their site that the serrated sections don't get sharpened with that service.

Oh well, looks like an excuse to buy another one!

I got the serrated version myself. Since I don't plan on cutting down trees, I think the serrations should stay fairly sharp. Not a dealbreaker though, IMO.

I agree, the lower end models are pretty bland. I have to say, this knife is different. Little things like brass washers ensure it opens easily and will never rust/corrode. Being an attorney, I don't use this knife every day- I'm a weekend warrior- but it has stayed amazingly sharp for a long time. I live close to the mfr so I can drop in there and get it sharpened whenever I like.

Anyone ever sent a knife back to SOG? I've got a Twitch 2 that the safety's been broken on for a couple of years. It's not worth carrying at this point. It's got to be held at the exact right angle to open. I just haven't messed with sending it back..

I have heard only good things about the customer service at Sog. I would think they would get it fixed or send you a new one. Is it the actual safety? or the arch lock?

I called them one day to ask where I could get a new pocket clip cause I bent the one on my Aegis. The customer service person mailed me one that day, no charge, no questions asked. I love my Aegis and Mini Aegis

My problem is with the actual safety slider. It just bounces around as if not attached to anything. It feels as if there is a broken spring or something. If the knife is held upright it opens. Held down and ot is locked.

So the blade will not stay open or lock open?
On the Aegis (which is assisted opening) there is the arch lock with the slider to release the lock to close the blade, and a separate safety to lock it to keep it from auto opening in your pocket.

Either way, I think Sog would take care of it.
