This is a great place for me to vent! So, the rear passenger side of my Disco II had the shock mount rip out of the frame. This was not due to off road use as you can imagine. I had the Land Rover Techs look at it and they said it was a manufacturing defect. They had never seen anything like it. Land Rover North America's Regional Rep and Engineer said I was out of factory warranty and they had no reason to fix this. The dealership gave up fighting them and told me I was out of luck and needed a new frame. I then take the vehicle to the BEST body shop in the area and they affirm that this looks like it came from the factory with a bad weld. Thanks Land Rover for showing me how little you care about your customers! I love my Rover, but I refuse to EVER have anything to do with buying another. I have gotten quoted over $2200 to fix this. Anyone know a good welder in the DC area? Any help would be great! I want to get back on the road/trail ASAP!

Oh for crying out loud. While I am sure there was some sort of issue, all you really need to do is weld some plate on the frame. Any welding shop can do this cheap. Let me know if you need a new shock mount as well. I have a spare or two.

What criminal is quoting you $2200 to weld that back up? Go to a few truck welders and see what price they say for Curtis' fix.

I can understand your fustration. I tore one of my lower rear shock mounts and my dealers wanted me to pay something like $1100 to replace the whole axle skin. Had a good local welder fix the mount and renforce the other for $50 - $100 if I recall.

Call me crazy, but if they admit that it was bad from the factory that is a safety item and I would ask them if they would like you to get a good lawyer and explain what would happen if you continue to drive around with a factory defect that they refuse to fix.

But I could be way off base.

Why not give Steve at Rovertym a call. He's not far from you and I bet he could hook you up properly for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the all the advice! I was quoted $2200 by Wagonworks in Alexandria, VA. I did talk to the guys at Rovertym, but I have since decided to have my shop work on it. I work for Lindsay Lexus in Alexandria and our body shop is gonna hook me up pretty cheap. They are gonna try to repair the existing shock mount b/c it looks like new ones can not be ordered for a series II disco. Who knows. Anyway, I'll be back on the trail soon. Thanks everyone! :D

I'd go with joey -- sounds like a safety issue if the admitted it was bad from the factory.

Perhaps a call to your lawyer might be in order....
