That article says they're working on a straight six. I'd love to see that.

I wish they'd put a V8 back in the LR4. That V6 is really running me off of the thing. I'd love a straight six, though.

Something tells me neither will make it in before the Discovery 4 replaces it, though.

Cheers,

Had heard the straight 6 was coming back to Jag but hopefully it'll extend to the LR line. I'd think the new Defender would be a shoe in for it

As long as the ass end points to the rear wheels, they can put it in all of them so far as I'm concerned.

If it becomes an option in the F-Type, I might actually become a bit interested in the car. Right now I think the engine choices suck. Of course, Jaguar has a history with supercharged straight six engines, and so does Aston Martin. That could lead to a new, more interesting XJR or even a resurrected XK.

Imagine the possibilities. I'm excited about the news.

Cheers,

Kennith

The diesel that's offered in the RR and RRS is really nice. I had some time to kill a few weeks ago, so I test drove a RRS with the Diesel engine. Man, it's so quiet and smooth; it just doesn't feel like a Diesel. It has tons of torque and in everyday driving it feels effortless.

The rate of crankshaft failures on ROW LR 2.7 and 3.0V6 diesel engines is insane.
After a flat out denial of an issue with 2.7, Land Rover introduced locking rod bearing shells (can you imagine rod bearings without bent tabs??) as a remedy.
... Until the issue proved to be the same with the 3.0.

That's what they tell us. I'm looking forward to that too. They will put it in both product lines I'm sure.

The new 2.0 4 cyl. Diesel is rated at 70 plus mpg. in the new Jaguar XE. Now if that's in Imperial gallons I think that would translate to a bit less, but still over 60mpg I would guess.

And Kenny, it points the right direction in that XE. That's pretty important to me too.

Isn't the Ford Coyote engine the same 5.0 Land Rover and Jaguar run?

No the 5.0 is not like the coyote but it's the next AJV8 not the old 4.0, 4.4, 4.2 that jag/LR built off the ford DOHC v8 they bought. If they would have kept that motor they wouldn't be having all these issues. That motor was decently reliable.

I never really looked at the coyote engine. I guess your right now that I looked at some in google images.

You say the 5.0 has issues? Say it's not so.

I thought the 5.0 was just the AJ-V8 gen III with spray-guided direct-injection, continuously variable intake and exhaust camshaft timing.

You're saying the AJ-V8 was originally developed from a Ford engine?

Wikipedia only states it's built in the "Jaguar facility located within the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant", not what it's based on.
