The ac in our '05 LR3 is a little wonky. Sometimes it's cold other times not and someone suggested replacing the BCM. Anyone here experienced in this? Which BCM controls the ac? Does it need to be flashed? Apologies for all the questions but I'm more of a wrench turner/multimeter type repair guy. These newer cars are outside my knowledge base.

I don’t think a BCM would fix your a/c problem. It would need to be programmed. And stop listening to whatever jackass told you to do that.
I think I would replace the valve on the back of the compressor for an intermittent a/c problem. Since it works sometimes I gotta believe the compressor itself is OK. I've fixed a few with that. The condenser is a common leak if you have low pressure in the system.
