R&R yesterday. First time so at first the access looked super annoying but was actually easy after just going ahead and removing the fender liner and heat shields. I've taken the liner out so many times but never the thin heat shields. Then also pulled the upper A arm which then made access to the two wire connections actually super easy.

I'd say it's somewhat of a trade-off taking the time to remove the A arm, which is only 2 yrs old so all bolts are perfectly fine and the aluminum anti-seize looked fresh. A partial disconnection of at least the ball joint/knuckle and end link is probably necessary but maybe if air struts were emptied, then you could compress the whole deal up to the top allowing maybe just enough access to the starter 2 wires and the one upper bolt. But only now that I know exactly where they are, etc. Still, it's a 100% yes if you remove the A arm.

Dealer quoted over $1100 for the job, including their part of course, which is just a "Land Rover" stickered Denso according to what I pulled out of it. So, presumably the Denso I got from Britparts Utah will be fine for another 166,000 miles.

It occurs to me that there are re-manufactured starters and getting mine rebuilt to have around next time may be cheap/prudent?
