LR4 tire questions

Here's where I am now for reference. 18 inch wheels and 285/60/18. They fit fine, a little rubbing when turning sharp (like a U-turn) with suspension in standard or -15mm or -25mm. I drive it on the highway at -15mm and it's fine all day long. I use the XLifter module for suspension settings.

Yea same height (31.5") as 265/65-18 which comes recommended, too. The 60s are 31" and 65s are 32" which people say you run into issues with the frame horns (nbd to trim) but if I cant fit the spare even deflated and need to run lifted all the time to fit the 32s thats not for me right now.

The spare location underneath sucks - but so does $2,000 to relocate it to the rear bumper. These Nitto Terra Grapplers aren't very impressive either. I miss my 33" Cooper Discoverer STTs that were on my D2's 16-inch wheels.

Found my answer on the 255/65s. Looks bad ass but this guy is running a 2” GAP lift and said there’s no way the spare will fit underneath. I’ll save that for the next stage when I get a tire carrier and all the other supporting mods for bigger tires.

Seeking advice here....

I have a crack on the lip of one of my Compomotive 18" wheels on my 2013 LR4. It's the spare wheel but I want to get it on the ground and in rotation with the other 4. I'll add photos below.

When it was cold out my tire pressure sensor dash alarm would come on about once every 4-8 weeks telling me that the spare had low pressure. I think it was the cold at night then warm in the sun change that was pushing air out. Now that it's been warm around the clock I haven't had an alarm in months. But I did put soapy water on the cracked area a couple months ago and saw some bubbles.

I can't find anyone that will weld up this crack. I've been calling and emailing every "wheel repair" place in the greater Phx area but they are all just scrape-fixers. Is there anything else I could try? I was thinking of popping off the tire and smearing a little JB Weld "Steelstick" in there. This is the 2-part putty that I used to fill chips and scrapes on the wheels after I had the original finish chemically stripped. Then I had the wheels powdercoated but I missed this little hairline crack. The powdercoating guy noticed it and snapped a pic but I just told him to proceed so I could get the wheels done and returned.

Do you think smearing JB over/into the crack and then lightly sanding smooth and painting over it would help? Or is there a sealant I could use? I have a compressor so giving it a quick shot of air every now & then isn't a big deal but I'd rather not have a chronic leaker on the ground under me. Thanks.

That looks fixable to me. Try some high end body shops and see if they recommend anyone. Even a good mobile welder should be able to take care of that.

Yeah, I was just logging on to answer my own question - it needs to be welded or replaced.

To come full circle, I ended up buying the TuffAnt 18” rims and 265/65/18 ridge grapplers. No rub at stock height.

Love the setup and looks great too. Thanks for all the help. Jake at TuffAnt was incredibly helpful and a great vendor to me. Cheers,

Got the 255/60-19 Toyos mounted yesterday, drives better than it did on the stock continentals. Almost no noise at all; barely can tell they are there up until 40mph or so then the wind noise is louder than the tires are. Spare tire just fits fully inflated. I'm really happy with them, the truck looks how it should look from the factory with this size.

Which TuffAnt wheel offset did you end up going with?
And to clarify, no GAP tool suspension adjustments or anything like that?
The 255/65R19 are around 12mm taller. I wonder how they’d fit in comparison?

Just picked up my 5th from the wheel repairman. Welded the crack and returned it to round (had a good flat spot at the crack). Taking it in Monday to have all 5 rotated and balanced. Hopefully it is truly restored.

The Compomotives are great wheels. I hope you find a set. If not, they are worth the buy-in for a new set.
