Is anyone out there running this rack that can tell me what is involved with removal and if the vehicle can be easily returned to stock condition upon removal of the rack?

Thanks,

Brian

Based on their installation instructions -- LINK -- it shouldn't be difficult to remove and restore to original condition.

Looks like the Voyager rack can be installed directly on the bare roof, or on top of the OEM roof rails. The bare roof has two long black tracks that are flush-mounted to the plane of the roof. The OEM roof rails bolt into holes along these tracks. Or an aftermarket rack can bolt directly into these holes. Or an aftermarket rack can bolt to the OEM rails. Here's a pic of a Voyager rack I grabbed when I was shopping for racks. You can see the spacers used under the mounting points along the black tracks.

Either way, the rack can be removed and you'll be left with either a bare roof or the rails. The rails come in either regular (short) or extended lengths. I have extended rails that I will be removing when (if) my Terrafirma roof rack ever arrives here in the US. The Terrafirma mounts directly to the roof tracks.

From what i saw in an installation there are two trim pieces that must me drilled. They are in those tracks on front of vehicle.

It looks like in your picture, the trim pieces may be gone.

If the trim pieces are gone you can plug with a trim fastener (or similar) or just put the hardware back in. You can also grab a pair of full length roof rails and return fully back to stock

Yes, I think that you do have to drill holes through the black piece covering the tracks in the roof in order to fit the aftermarket rack's bolts. So if you remove an aftermarket rack, you'd be left with 8 holes through the black track covering piece. I'm not entirely sure as I haven't removed my OEM full length roof rails yet. I'm still waiting for my Terrafirma rack to arrive and I need the OEM rails in case I need to put my Thule cross-bars back on to carry something like a work ladder.

Yeah....just more $$$, right?

Looks like vehicle is about 85" with rack, so it may need to go.

Do you need to fit in a 7’ garage? I can just squeeze in my 7’ garage at work with the factory expedition roof rack

You can also drop down to access height. With my Xlifter module installed I can drop down below access height and still drive slowly.

Yep thought of that. It may just fit. I am just an idiot. I will have to attach a sign that flops down when I open garage.
