Hi,
I have been looking at the 2wd/4wd adaptar from Toddco Suspensions, i am not interested in an effect on the gas mileage. has anyone used this adaptar or know some pros and cons on it? i would love to be able to have the 2wd option, but have not been able to find much info on this piece!

Thanks Guys!

Good luck, I ordered a set of sway bar drops last year, numerous emails about my order went unanswered. I talking one a month for 4 months. Never did get them. and still no answer. Luckily went through PayPal and got refunded.

When I had my front Drive Shaft go out last fall, I removed it and just had the 2 Wheel Drive option for about a week. Felt Sotra squirmy without the front connected.

Why? One of the main attributes of a modern Landy is permanent 4wd.

Yeah i get that! im slowy getting less and less original on my disco and just came across this piece and am genuinely curious for any reviews or thoughts on it. I really like the 4wd, just like trying out other cool ideas more!

My thoughts on it: it is a stupid fucking idea. Spend your money on maintenance and gas when using the Rover as designed.

you said in your first post that you are not interested in the adaptor for the savings in fuel mileage.

if that 's the case why are you interested in it?

no judgement. just curious.

The reason the RRC got AWD with lockable center diff was to spread the torque between the front and rear axles, reducing the potential for carnage. You wont save any $$ in RWD. But you can test the theory by locking your center diff, removing a driveshaft and seeing how it goes for a few thousand miles.

I'm still struggling to understand the why. There are plenty of "other cool ideas" to try out with a DII, and most of them have some rational basis (e.g. improved capabilities, improved reliability, etc.). This product doesn't seem to offer any rational reason for its existence. I even checked out the Toddco web site to see if I was missing something, but even Toddco offers no rationale in the product description.

Same here.

OP: You can try this out easily for yourself. Remove the front shaft, lock the center diff, and drive it around. Maybe saves 0.1 MPG, but doesn't feel right, and removes a fair amount of capability from your truck.

I don't think it's a stupid f*cking idea. It's his truck - let him do what he wants. I've thought about it myself, though I admit I'm interested in improving mileage and maybe acceleration. But the list of stuff to do on my rig is long, so it's not really even on the list.

Land Rover didn't make an all wheel drive vehicle till the Freelander in 02. These trucks are considered full time 4 wheel drive. The difference is an all wheel drive vehicle does not have a 2 speed transfer case. The P38 and later Classic uses a viscous coupler and I used to try to argue that it was all wheel drive because of that. I got educated on the difference by some ass hole engineer I used to have to deal with. Same guy told me that we colonies bastardize the language.

What Range Rover didn’t have a 2 speed transfer case? Wether it is manual, viscous, or electric engaged all of them are equipped with one.

Im an asshole engineer and Ive never encountered a published specification that defines the terminology. Only marketing nonsense published by people with various arts degrees.

Remind him who’s been to the moon

Evoque/ newer 494 sprts can be ordered with single spped t case. Also the 405 Range can also be ordered that way.

I can find it for you, but I assure you Land Rover does not care what anybody else has to say about 4 wheel drive.
