Land Rover didn't make an all wheel drive vehicle till the Freelander in 02. These trucks are considered full time 4 wheel drive. The difference is an all wheel drive vehicle does not have a 2 speed transfer case. The P38 and later Classic uses a viscous coupler and I used to try to argue that it was all wheel drive because of that. I got educated on the difference by some ass hole engineer I used to have to deal with. Same guy told me that we colonies bastardize the language.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I don't think it's a stupid f*cking idea. It's his truck - let him do what he wants. I've thought about it myself, though I admit I'm interested in improving mileage and maybe acceleration. But the list of stuff to do on my rig is long, so it's not really even on the list.
I think Blueboy is right about what kind of idea this is.

Ah.... its all just terms and semantics. Both disco and p38 are AWD, meaning power can go to any of ALL WHEELS, i.e. the AW in AWD. The AW part of the P38 is really superior to the AW part of the disco. Never been in any P38 or classic without 2 speed transfer case and been in a few classics with LT230 which are not viscous.
