All,

Looking for a write-up on LT230 removal. Specifically for a D1, although I assume the D2 is similar. Have access to the RAVE, but the images and instructions are pretty basic. Also looking for advice for my first attempt. Thanks.

The LT230 is HEAVY! And awkward. If you're doing this with the truck on the ground you'll need a transmission jack/lift, the cheap Harbor Freight one works fine. Making the adapter bracket called out in the RAVE will be a big help too.

Step 1 - Secure a strong teenager who can follow instructions.

Step 2 - unbolt all the attaching bits and have said teenager lower the box onto himself.

Step 3 - remember to disable the PITA solenoid before replacing the box into the vehicle

Haha these replies are awesome. I've seen the flip flop one... such a long video with almost zero details concluded by kicking the transfer box off output shaft of the trans. LOL. Not gonna try the forklift.

What about a decently strong young adult and a late middle-aged man? Bonus points for father and son combo?

I do have access to that harbor freight trans hoist so that's good to know. Seems fairly straight forward. More concerned about the nuts on the exhaust manifold studs and unclamping the forward O2 sensor clips than the transfer case removal haha

Remove the coil pack and youll8have easy access to disconnect the front O2 plugs.
And I had to kick the TC to get it to mate up properly upon reinstall!!

the solenoid is what prevents shifting If not in neutral, they have been known to go bad apparently and then your transfer box wont think you're ever in neutral. I believe that what they are referring to.

hmmm I assume that affects R380s too? Any instructions on how to disable properly? Thanks for letting me know!
