Interested as to your estimate of min. configuration on tires/lift/CDL/Lockers for VOT? What was the configuration of the trucks that participated, if you wanted to have success and less hassle?

Somewhat depends on if you intend to do all the challenge trails or not but in general what I'd say is that the Rovers did fairly well with minor mods

Several stock trucks (including a bone stock Dii with just some MT's on it, and a 2.5NA 110) did fine. As did a few RRC's that were near or completely stock.

In my opinion the single biggest thing to have is a good set of tires (with spare(s)). A 2" lift and appropriate armor on the steering/difs would help reduce some of the anxiety of the rocks. CDL is definitely a plus if feasible. Other traction aids just make it a little easier.

My truck had a 2" lift, 245/75 MT's, TT in the back and did extremely well. The other balance you have to strike is with the driving to/from-unless you trailer. We drove from NoVA and that haul meant that even the mild Disco build I had added to fatigue, but it wasn't all that bad.

It's a great event to set a few milestones in place for a truck build and then go test it against to be sure.

i would have enjoyed the physical challenges and also a group challenge (build Peter a log cabin at the top of his land), and of course a point system to determine a winner. I don't see the point in timing the release of trucks as there was no time kept on the other end, nor was it a race. Points should be based on the ability to help others, complete physical challenges and participation in the group challenge. I agree with the hitting the checkpoints and making camp by a certain time or you are eliminated.

Haha I wouldn't say that stock DII did "fine"... he made it through most of the stuff being dragged behind the AKLOVER 110. Nice guy though, he didn't have his Series III ready, but I think that would have done much better.

In all fairness, the D2 did very well in stock format. I only had to give him a hand in a couple of spots. The deep mud was not his friend, and after we took the tires down lower he faired well. Its a shame he came home and put his series up for sale. If I only had 2 people in the 110, and had centered the RTT, the challenges would have looked a bit better. In retrospect, we have gleaned a lot of knowledge from the event, and I expect next year we should do better considering I felt like I was driving a school bus at times.
The timed start was to spread the trucks out instead of having a mass starting, but in a couple of cases didn't work out so well.
All in all, the 110 preformed flawlessly, stock format and all. There are some things it just won't do...with out leaving a trail of broken parts.
