My disco is a 94 and when i first start it and put it in the gear the trans will not engage. After a second it slips in and then operates with no problem. I am going to change the fluid and add some trans fix(what was the brand again?). What else should be done or considered?

and if i need more work, does anyone have a shop recommendation in northern new jersey?

thanks, chris

Fluid and filter may help, Lucas makes a good transmission fix. But if it is doing this all the time, I would start to save some money and go see a Transmission person.

It sounds like things are starting to wear out (the bands that is)

joey,
unlike most domestic transmissions, the ZF trans does not utilize braking "bands".
braking clutch packs are used in their place.

Marc, thanks for the info, that is something I did not know. I didn't even look on the Rave CD first, as made a mistake and ASSUMED something...

Oh well, thanks for the info though I will store that away for future use.
