So is that short thing at the rear of the truck next to the step a muffler? It seems like it is but there is also a larger one under the truck more towards the front. So there's two?

My point is the rearmost smaller one has a hole in it about the size of a baseball. It melted the rubber on the strut for the step before I removed it. Now its blackening my skid plate(not that I care too much, its a skid after all). Can I just cut this thing off and throw an exhaust tip on there?

I cut mine off years ago. At first, it sounded a little louder. But now I don't notice a noise difference at all. I had a straight pipe made to clamp on and get the exhaust out from under the body and bumper.

Just cut it off. It's either that, or going all the way to replace it. A hole that big isn't worth repairing, unless you absolutely have to.

The resonator doesn't make a big difference. If it's gone, it just won't sound like a modern car, that's all. It's not going to be very loud at all. I'll put it to you this way: you already have a big ass hole in it...

The RV8 produces noises like no other engine in the world. It has a wonderful exhaust note, but most people never hear it. Dropping the resonator won't bring it out. It's not going to piss off the neighbors.

Agreed, I ran a magnaflow and no resonator on my last Disco and it gave me a smile every time I turned the key. The only time you may notice that thing cut off at first is between 30-40 mph and it's a very satisfied purr. Although, yours may already sound like that if the deminsions of that hole are accurate. Either way, not a life altering modification.

My recently acquired Range Rover Classic has a resonator with the whole bottom falling out of it. It still seems super quiet compared with my decatted Disco with turbo muffler.
