I have a 2013 LR2. My wife likes it and I’m ok with it. I think they do a good job in a lot of snow with Blizzaks on them. I run Conti extreme contacts (DWS) in the summer.
This damn car has had every expensive repair these things a known for. I mean EVERY ONE of them.
Right after the warranty expired the intake cam sprocket broke. $650, then the turbo after that $$2400, all but one wheel bearing $1000 ish, it’s been nickel and dining me with shit like a heater hose set and power steering lines like $300 ish. I recently put pads and rotors all the way around it and both summer and winter tires are pretty new with 1 season on each.

It currently needs a $900 occupancy sensor it’s not getting( the air bag light will burn out eventually ) it needs both catalytic converters for like $2300 and it ain’t getting that either ( they don’t emissions test here cause I’m so rural)

Now this toilet needs an IRD. That’s the t case basically. Volvo guys call it an Angle Gear. That’s going to cost me $2000 with a coupler and some seals that sit between the trans and it. I’ve gotta do it, no choice. I can’t get what I want to replace it with and if I bail now I bail on all those tires and brakes and turbo and all of it.

i have a 2012 Chevy Cruze with 230,000 miles on it that’s cost me $1500 in repairs at the most.

Two can play this game! You should harm the car in non-mechanical ways to get even. Start by denting various body panels with a hammer. If it keeps acting up, then get even in other ways. Show it Who is Boss!!!

Those things were a not-uncommon replacement on the first Gen. XC90s.
It was a PITA I believe, but people would DIY them on those.

Does this mean the LR2 is a front wheel drive biased all-wheel drive?

Yes. Volvo calls it an Angle Gear. On the freelander they called it a PTU I think

How similar is an LR2 to a first gen XC90 with a 3.2?
The early ones with the 3.2 are basically a volvo. Up to and including 2012. I've used Volvo tools and pin out boxes for ABS stuff. Wire colors are very Volvo too. CAN network stuff is violet and purple instead of Land Rovers yellow.

Interesting.

I wonder if you could swap the Yamaha 4.4 v8 into one...🤔😆

But that's just the LR experience to me. We loved our DII, Can't tell you how many times it left our house on a flatbed under warranty and then blew the engine. I still think of that rig fondly. Shouldn't, should hate it.

It would be interesting to see where they would be as a company if they could have produced a reliabal vehical in that DI/II era. And it's interesting how the asians figured out how to produce mechanically sound vehicles and the euorpeans couldn't.

They built a reliable vehicle. BMW fucked up a perfectly good truck when they made the Disco2.

So now I will soon be adding the dreaded rear drive axle pinion bearing is noisy. I got under it and there’s oil around the thing too. So it’s failing.
Probably another $600 and a bunch of time. All cars have problems that you can expect to see. I have had every one of them on this toilet. I’m at the point that if I don’t fix this then everything else I fixed was a waste of money. Probably got 2 seasons left on both the summer and winter tires. Brakes are fairly new.
It never ends with this thing.

It’s a bearing a crush sleeve a handful of seals and two different fluids.
Hopefully you’re right and I’m exaggerating. I’ll post up the receipt.
