So did we ever find out if this engine will turn over? I forgot that sometimes I just turn the engine a little bit with the nut on the alternator pully. It's easier to get at for sure, you just want to turn it a little to make sure it's not seized. If it is you have a parts truck, not a big deal. If it's a parts truck it will save you more than you paid for it.

First, I stopped reading at doesn't start, so if this has been addressed ignore it.

does the red light on the dash blink when you lock the door and stop blinking when you unlock it?

Does the check engine light go on when you first turn the key?

If these things don't happen then you have some alarm problems. possibly mechanical switches or wiring in the door, or broken lock cams. Maybe the alarm lost its synch to the ECU, but I've only heard of that happening to P38s

I drug home a dead disco and the button that follows the door lock cam was all chewed up by something.

24 hours and no Hypnotoad? Probably laughing so hard he dropped the ban hammer.

That's why your wife keeps hitting the back wall of the garage dude. You told her that little thing is that long, she probably thinks the garage is 60 feet deep

As soon as you can, pull the insulation under the carpets on the front floor boards and the rear cargo area. We get a lot of rain in the South and those pads under the carpet hold onto moisture which will eat those floorpans. I pulled mine and it wasn't too bad since it was stored indoors but it's a common rust spot.

On an aside, I've owned 3 D1's. My 99 I sold with 215k on the clock and it was running very strong. My current DD is another 99. Both have been awesomely reliable. Give them a little and they'll give you a lot. GL with the build!

Jason, good to see you ended up with a D1. My preference as well.
Folks are giving you some great advice others not so much, however, how is your mechanical ability or are you planning to have a shop look at it? If the former folks here will walk you through many aspects. Tech Section search is also a good start.
If the latter, let us know where you’re located and probably can give some advice as well on good shops.
Best of luck as it never hurts with a Rover.
I figured out that I was getting no fuel pressure at all so I took the fuel pump out and it was bad as well as the gas in the tank, next is replacing the pump and fuel filter.

Consider swapping the injectors out too. If it sat for a long time I have had GEMS injectors go bad and cause misfires. There are upgraded Bosch injectors or you can just swap in known-good stock ones. It is not impossible to do with the upper intake in place, but does take some finesse.

dont mess with the fuel rail or injectors unless you have to. get it running with a new pump first. Run some fresh fuel through it before you start throwing money at problems that may not exist.

It's a slippery slope. You replace a bulb, discovery a blown fuse, and before you know it you're performing a body-off-frame restoration and full drivetrain rebuild.

Got the tree sap and mildew out. I pulled out the mat in the back soaking up water now I have to do the front. Fuel pump is on the way.

Looks better. Looks like Rojo Red. If it is that's a color that was sent to Mexico and not the US. Then they didn't sell them in Mexico and they got brought up here and sold.

Any documentation supporting that? It does seem to be the most popular 5 speed no options color, and my 97 has an early 96 build date

How was the rust situation under the rear mat? Doesn’t look bad at all the edge by the door. Looks like the whole truck cleaned up nicely.
Surprisingly so far the truck has been rust free. It was perfect under the wear mat, all the door jams are good. Just waiting to see what this front mat looks like.

It may get frustrating at times, but it will be so worth it once you get it rolling. Our ‘95 was at death’s door when we got it, and it was so rewarding to have it fire up after working on it for a few weeks. In 20 degree weather...

So far it look like a nice one, better than what I started with.
