If you got it to work on cux stuff I would keep that functionality for sure. It's kind of what direction your going to go. I still need something to do that but really rarely need it.
While I still have my personal SDD/pathfinder machine fully up to date, I very rarely use it. I pretty much only work on Defenders now, so T4 gets used the most. The Snap On scanner is just quicker to use and has a reliable battery. The Picoscope is the real winner when it comes to diagnosing 14cux

I’m happy to work on it at my shop in Virginia. Misdiagnosis often becomes the customers expense at most shops.

Do you run your SDD/Pathfinder laptop on Windows 7 or 10? Windows10 is way better, faster and doesn't have as many glitches. But it does make the laptop run hotter ,but they seem to be dealing with it. I keep a couple windows7 laptops around because you need that to run all the piggy back systems like the IDU2 and that shittery for powering down the IPace, all that stuff needs to run on windows7. Once they stopped taking updates because the hard drive couldn't fit the stuff, I put a bigger solid state drive in it and reload the thing with the windows10 version from the download site.
I did one this week and the site you have to go to to download Pathfinder isn't even run by JLR anymore. It's some 3rd party site. Yet another sign JLR is bailing on Pathfinder all together and going all in on a new cloud based diagnostic system.

I’m not sure but I’m guessing mine is Windows 7. I’m running a $400 ebay CF-53 with a replacement solid state hard drive. When the pathfinder engineers came to our shop they said mine was the fastest one to do data collection and they had no idea my laptop was not a legit one from JLR.

I’d love to get a CF-54 with two batteries, but they are too expensive last time I looked.

I was under the impression the cf54 only had some differences in the graphic stuff. I think I have one around here thats missing a small cover on the bottom. It's got a bigger screen and it's slightly thinner.

I found it and it's a CF52. I know what your talking about now. I wanted to do something like that also. I think the problem you run into is the fact that SDD/Pathfinder run on a 32bit operating system. Pretty sure you can dumb the CF54 down to do that. I want to do the CF54 to get a better processor. The CF53 gets noticeably hotter running on Windows10.

Have you been able to get T4 on any of the SDD/Pathfinder machines? The app launcher has in icon for it if you get it on there. For some reason we had one at Land Rover Manhattan with it, but we couldn’t figure out why.

No I haven’t gotten them both to live on the same laptop. I do have the new software for T4. Old T4 needed to run on windowsxp pro I think. I got the software and went thru all the trouble getting a copy of windowsXP on a laptop and found out the new discs make it run on windows7. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a t4 ready to go, but I haven’t had a car to put it on.
Did you say you have a T4?

Yes, I have a T4 on one of the original Laptops, but it is on borrowed time.

I have the docking station for T4 handheld which is also an interface for T4
That’s pretty awesome you have that stuff. We have more than one kicking around our tool room.
I had a field service engineer tell me that hooking up your T4 to either a BMW Range or a P38 ( can’t remember which one) it would take away functionality and you had to rerun one of the discs. But that was when you had about 11 discs to load one at a time in the correct order to load all the T4 software. Now it’s all on one DVD formatted disc. Then you get 2 more discs with it. One is the archive disc and the other the Freelander disc.

Even though I’m happy with Nanocom for my Disco 2, I really prefer my Bearmach Hawkeye Total.
It diagnoses the following Land Rovers:
  • DEFENDER 90
  • DEFENDER 110
  • DEFENDER 130
  • FREELANDER 1 L314
  • FREELANDER 2 L359
  • DISCOVERY 1
  • DISCOVERY 2 L318
  • DISCOVERY 3 L319
  • DISCOVERY 4 L319
  • DISCOVERY Sport L550
  • RANGE ROVER CLASSIC
  • RANGE ROVER P38
  • RANGE ROVER L322
  • RANGE ROVER L405
  • RANGE ROVER Sport L320
  • RANGE ROVER Sport L494
  • RANGE ROVER Evoque

Looking for suggestions from other techs/shop owners.

I have no intentions of ever working on the newer stuff, but I need to be able to play with things on LR3s, L322s, and LR4s would be nice too. D1s, D2s, and unfortunately P38s are a must. Basically anything after 2010 or so I have no interest or need to work on. Been using our old DEC Superscan for 15+ years now and I cant even buy a replacement battery for the laptop I use with it anymore. I know there are a lot of options out there and its a bit overwhelming. Appreciate the help.
For everything but the P38 I would recomend Autel. For any vehicle that runs everything on a CAN network.
