Love a manual on road and off. Makes on road driving experience more enjoyable (as long as you’re not in constant stop/go traffic) and more of a challenge off road. Generally the more analog it can get, the more fun I have.

I love a manual on the street. Hate it off road.
I agree. My daily is a 6spd turbo. Its a blast except in heavy traffic. That said I love having an auto offroad. The crawler gear in the Bronco should be nice though. Ford claims you dont need the clutch when restarting in crawl gear.

How on earth did they manage that? Why would you throw technology at a manual transmission? Maybe I'm just old school.

Yeah I read the crawl gear is under reverse to the left and down from all other forward gears. Pretty sweet. Will likely never be used by 80% of buyers.

Driving a manual transmission is an art, make no mistake at all. Drive with someone on or off road who DOES NOT know how to drive one you you'll know exactly what I mean. I'm sure it's a cool feature but for the one who's mastered the craft is it entirely necessary? Also, seems to me it would take the fun/skill out a bit.

On the same topic. Anyone here ever drove with someone who can mix all 5 gears without a clutch? I have.

Driving a stick on the road is not the same as offroad. Especially if the vehicle isn't geared low enough. The crawl ratio on the new Bronco is so low that it lets you start and get moving without needing a clutch. Pretty much the same as most offroad buggies with super low ratios. Ideal for technical sections or climbs.

I know this. The CJ-5's did fine with no 'crawl ratio'. Keep it simple stupid. Not you, just in general.

Basically it's comparing the Bronco Sport to the Defender, so the argument is mostly bang for the buck. Not which one is hands down the better vehicle.
The Bronco sport looks to have an entirely different drive train. Like The Disco sport. Front wheel drive based vehicle.

Every time I glimpse a Bronco Sport, I see a Freelander. A far superior Freelander.

I didn't see any Bronco sport drivetrain shots. Maybe Fords not all that proud of the Freelander3.

I drove a four-speed Ford Transit without a clutch for two weeks, before I figured out what clutch cable I could adapt for it.
Not much fun as with the clutch - avoiding streets with controlled intersections becomes The game.
