New timing chain on old gears

Anybody use a new timing chain on old gears? I plan to get a land rover genuine chain from BPU but, geuine gears are worth more than my truck. I have read bad reviews on the aftermarket Allmakes gears so, since my gears don't look bad to me, should I re-use them? I also read about Allmakes having a premium line and that the premium gear is not so bad but, don't know who carries those. I don't see a choice anywhere I've looked. Just the $20 poorly cast one. Anybody know of a vendor with the premium line Allmakes gear with PR2 on the box?

I reused mine, because, like what you said, AllMakes is total shit and the woodruff doesn't fit. As long as there is no noticeable wear it's not a problem. Purists will freak out, but in all reality it's not a big deal

Re-usable if not worn....but I would look carefully for what WORN really means....will an old gear break? No...but old chains stretch. :)

Vegas!
I was meaning more in the terms of taking their cams meant for dizzy rovers and machining them for use on gems/bosch rovers.

If you handled as many as I do, you'd know that the AllMakes are the same as the OE and that there was a HUGE run of them that needed a tiny bit of polishing on the ID.

When AllMakes was back-ordered, I ordered an OE and whaddayaknow, it didn't fit either! Same fucking part, one comes in a blue box, one in a green and white box.

Gears get an almost microscopic curve in the teeth when they wear, and those worn teeth will ruin your new chain far before its time. Change the gears when you change the chain. Same thing we learned motorcycling in the 70s.

John-those who would even consider re-using such a critical component are unlikely to be swayed by logic, knowledge or experience.

As for microscopic, most of them I remove from service, the wear is far from microscopic!

It was good speaking with you yesterday catching up.

Ok, I'll use new gears but, from the pics I've seen, the pot holes in the casting on the allmakes sure aren't microscopic. Appreciate the input. So do they make a standard and premium line of gears?

All makes does have a premium line. Never ever use an internal that uses the adjective 'standard'!

So does allmakes make a premium cam gear for 03 D2? If so where do you get it? The AllMakes and aftermarket ones I've seen pics of must be the 'standard'. I've read their crank gear is ok but the cam gear is not. Now I've read that their cam gear is same as OEM but, to me, looks alot less quality than my cam gear. My cam gear doesn't have all of the pot holes from poor casting.

I have no idea if all makes has premium cam gears. I personally only use genuine parts. I'm sure there are all makes parts in genuine boxes just like genuine water pumps that are airtek out of the white box from the dealer.

At the end of the day it's always a matter of preference, based on previous experience. I prefer genuine parts.

I've handled all the allmakes internal stuff. Crank gear is fine. Cam gear is garbage. If oem is the same then you're screwed. Zack should be able to open two boxes and see if they are.
