My buddy is having a no start due to the fuel pump not coming on. I can’t go help him because I broke my leg. He sent me a video of a relay going nuts when he puts the key in position 2. Any idea what it is. It’s a 98. So I thought the fuel pump relay was in the kick. This is behind the glove box.

stuff behind the glovebox is audio amplifier, and 2 relays that have to do with lighting the auto shift indicator with key on and switching it over to dimmer control when headlights are on

fuel pump relay is under hood by vapor canister

Thanks for the reply. I’ll pass that info on. I think he has been immobilized. I sent him that info as well. Although there are conflicting processes online.

Background…his dash lights didn’t work. So his son checked the fuses. By checked, I mean he removed every fuse in the truck and held it up to a light. Then no start…

Someone needs to show his son how to check fuses with a test light. Why did you break your leg now when your friend needs you? Coudn't that have waited? People need you right now. WTF

No shit. I broke it back in august. But I had to get two plates and eight screws. So I’m still not walking without crutches.

anyway…a little update. I’m pretty sure he immobilized it. Does anyone know how to resolve that? He’s tried the 1313 and 1515 door lock trick with no success. He has a working fob as well. Dash light flashes like it should.

I think there's a wire in the ecu that can be grounded to bypass all that. Not saying this is the proper fix but it might get ya out of the water.

Long story. Hopefully I remember it all…

Truck runs great.
No dash lights. Checked fuses. All good.
After checking fuses, no start.
Truck cranks, with a delay.
Fob unlocks doors.
Alarm light functions properly.
Tried 1515 trick.
Checked the pump, no power at pump.
Checked pump was good using 12v jump. It is.
Checked relays. One clicking like crazy.
Relay clicking is lights related.
Bypassed green alarm box.
Fob stopped working.
Still no start.
No delay on crank now.
Checked fuses again.
No 13 blown.
Fixed 13. All others good.
Doors will not lock with key unless trunk open.
Put everything back to normal.
Checked spark. None
Checked 12v at pump. None
CEL is not on.

I think that covers it.

I've had luck disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting it with the key in the on position. No check engine light with the key on means either it's imobilized or the ECM is not powered up because of a battery feed or ground problem.

wasn't there an old thread by Dan Chapman that relates to the electrical issues/no start with the rear door being open or closed?

Update…he put everything back to normal. He did the 1515 bypass and it started right up. My theory is that his kid did a shit job checking the fuses. 13 was blown the whole time. So when he tried the bypass, the door cylinder didn’t know he was doing anything.

I have a '98 D1 with a clicking relay behind glove box in position 2 as part of a "crank, no start" issue but the clicking relay is for the electric spall fans. Its been in the shop here in Phoenix since May and my thread in this forum covers the history of whats been done. Its got to be somethign simple thats been overlooked.
