New Wet Dry Vacuum Idea from Ridgid

I've never once used one that I liked. I realize there are thousand dollar vacuums that are likely pretty decent, but why hasn't there been any innovation at the consumer level? Even the "boutique" models that tool nerds fawn over aren't right.

"Oh, here's some $2,000 crap from Germany that only five people per year can buy!"

Same shit, sometimes better materials. That's all.

I've been patiently waiting for Dyson to show the world what's wrong with the fucking things. It will happen sooner or later. You've got to use a Dyson to know why it's better than the fancy brands. They are all stuck in damned the 1970's, just like wet/dry vacuum manufacturers.

...And so I wait.

In the meantime, Home Depot/Ridgid has had a crack at it:

Somebody finally decided that the biggest irritation encountered by owners of these fucking antiques is where to put all the shit when you aren't using it!:banghead:

Just look at that and imagine how much easier it would be to transport and store than the crap you own now.

The tools always fall off, and the hose is always in the way, no matter how clever the manufacturer thought they were being with their cute little clips and loops.

Now, this isn't a 2.5" hose, but it's a fine example to other manufacturers, who may as well include coat hangers, zip ties, and duct tape with their products.

Fuck that. I'm buying one before someone realizes it's a good idea and cancels production.

Cheers,

You must get some damn good weed down there in N.C.

My post didn't make very much sense, I know. I'd just come back in after wrestling with my Shop Vac, with it's sticky wheels and hose that kinks and falls apart all the time, as well as the stupid latches that don't hold the bottom on when I pick the thing up by the handle.

I was a bit fed up and started looking at different models, and that's when I came upon the one I linked, and was compelled to note it's existence. It's a simple idea, but it's a good idea.

No longer will I wrap a hose around a vacuum, only to watch it pop right back out as soon as I begin to move it. That bugs the hell out of me. The damned things take up twice as much room as they should.

Hell. There I go again.

I live in a steel building. There's no end of dust in this place. Also, I loathe spiders, so I've always got a vacuum with a very long wand ready to go.

As noted in another thread, however, I bought the Vacu-Maid product instead. I might pick up one of those Ridgid units eventually, but I've honestly been surprised at how capable this wall mounted unit is.

I have had a Rigid for years. It sucks. From the looks of it this one sucks, too. But that's what they are supposed to do, isn't it?

I bought a VacuMaid Garage Vac instead. That thing will suck a bolt down it's 50 foot hose. It's obscene.

Great bunch of guys at the company, as well.

My Sears/Craftsman has been in continual use for wet or dry and blowing for 20yrs. Filters are not cheap, but there is a Sears store or Sears Hardware store within 15 mins., if I need something. Bolts and rivets are rusting, so may not last much longer.

I've had one of the Hoover Garage Vac's for years, got it for free with an employee safety reward program.

The thing kicks ass. Have it mounted right up near the garage entrance. I can reach anywhere in the garage and out onto the driveway for use inside vehicles too. I still have the Shop-Vac for wet duty or bigger jobs like broken glass. Hell, I've used my Shop-Vac for picking up my kid's Legos a few times. :D
