No Communication - SRS Module

Has anyone successfully transplanted a SRS module from one D1 to another? Are they VIN locked/do they require additional programming? Trying to avoid a visit to a dealer or third party shop to have the SRS light diagnosed further. Especially when the module is so accessible under the center console.

I have the same issue in my 96. The SRS module should not be VIN-locked - but I have not verified it.

I have an identical '96 parts truck that I could try (assuming it is not the same problem). BUT I am not sure if there will be any side effects... Plus I don't have a reader to verify anything changed. Would really like to get this resolved and have airbags/no light again.

I have successfully done this, 96 srs into a 95

There are 2 different setups on a d1. Dual or single sensor. I would think youd need to keep that the same

So what procedure did you use? Disconnect battery and wait a few minutes then just swap modules under center console? Did it resolve your issue?

straight swap. I know the book lists single and dual sensor, but i think the single was only on 94s and 95RRCs. pretty much anything with OBD2 will have the dual.

I think single sensor was late 97 and up.

Two different SRS systems are fitted to Discovery.
The Distributed SRS which has two crash sensors
located in the engine compartment on the chassis
longitudinals and the Single Point Sensing (SPS) SRS
which has a single crash sensor located in the Airbag
diagnostic control unit.
The change from distributed SRS to SPS SRS
occurred at VINs 198222 and 528977.
